Pentax XL 5.2mm discontinued...

Posted By Paul Wilson

It seems like this is the end of the line for this eyepeice. About eighteen months or so ago, there were rumors of Pentax adding a 2.8mm and a 2" 30mm to the XL family.

Has anyone heard anything new on that front? Is Pentax tinkering with the lineup, or are they retiring models that don't do as well in the marketplace? I've heard rumors that Pentax is scaling back their astronomical offerings. Just curious...

Any new Mak-Cass scopes planned for the A-P lineup

Posted By Paul Wilson

Roland, just curious, do you plan to introduce other Mak-Cass sizes to the A-P telescope lineup in a forthcoming production run?

The 10" A-P Mak-Cass appears to be a big hit. I've seen pictures of prototype 8.1" and 5.5" versions on the A-P web site. They've always struck me as a great alternatives to refractors for visual planetary, moon and double star work.

I like aperture as much as the next observer, but the 10" Mak-Cass is quite a beast. The 16lb 8.1" m-c looks like the sweet spot to me, especially since the cost and availability of 7" refractors is such a barrier, not to mention what it takes to mount one of them.

Would any of these Mak-Cass scopes (8.1 or 5.5) be easy enough to manufacture in sufficient volume to warrant their addtion to your lineup?

What do others think about the Mak-Cass as an alternative to a bigger refractor?

Regards,

Paul

Wins the SUPER BOWL

Why do you call the Giants the "underdog" then? For all the reasons you mention they should be the favorite, right?

The only place the Giants are "underdogs" is in Vegas. The betting lines aren't about picking a winner. They're about evening out the wagering so losers pay winners and the house takes the vig. If bad Eli shows up on Sunday it's NE by 10. Otherwise I think it's the Giants by 7.

Who's going to win just ask the buccaners or or someone from the Cowboys better yet ask someone from Greenbay.
Never never underestimate the underdog !!!!!!!
