First image (Archimedes) DMK21F04 Firewire camera

Posted By Wesley Higgins

Hi,

This is a single image (and not all that good) taken on a night of very bad seeing (only one frame was good enough to use)with a new video camera I just bought.
The camera is an ImagagingSource DMK21F04 B&W Firewire
video camera , this camera has the B&W version of the chip in the Toucam Pro and has almost three times the sensitivity and can image at 30FPS with NO compression.
Even at full gain this camera has very little noise and it also does no in camera sharpening of the image, so far I plan on just using this camera on the Moon and the
ISS, if I ever get some more clear skies and hopefully good seeing I will post some more images from this camera.
A downside to 30FPS is an uncompressed 40 second file is 1GB and it needs a very fast computer .

I have seen much better images of Archimedes taken by others and myself with the Toucam but for one single image
on a night of very bad seeing I am excited about the prospects of this camera .

Thanks,

Wes Higgins

Rimi Hyginus DMK21F04 Firewire camera

Posted By Wesley Higgins

Hi,

I went through some more Moon images taken on my first night out with the DMK21F04 Firewire camera and found 25
frames of Rimi Hyginus good enough to stack, as I stated in my other post the seeing was poor and IMO the low noise
and 30FPS uncompressed of the DMK21F04 Firewire camera helped a lot in getting a few images to stack .

Thanks,

Monochrome Jupiter

Posted By Wesley Higgins

Hi,

I'm still experimenting with the Imagingsource DMK 21F04
monochrome Firewire camera (I've only had two clear nights without 25mph winds in the last three weeks) and again the
seeing was at best 5/10.
This image is a stack of 1000 frames from one Avi of 4000
frames taken at 30FPS, the extra sensitivity of the camera
allowed me to use a shutter of 1/128 of a second, on the same night with my Toucam Pro I could only use a 1/33 shutter and of course only 10FPS, the image was noticeable
better with the DMK 21FO4 and some of the improvement was due only to the monochrome image.
I'm still waiting for a night of good seeing to see if there is a true improvement using this camera compared to the Toucam Pro 740, as of now I cain't say for sure .

Thanks,

Wes Higgins

ISS Image 05-14-04

Posted By Wesley Higgins

Hi,

Okay I admit it looks like a big white blob :>)

This ISS image was taken with my new DMK 21F04 monochrome
Firewire camera , I did not allow enough for the extra sensitivity of the camera so the image is overexposed
with the resulting loss of some detail.

14.5 Starmaster, 30FPS uncompressed, 1/1024 shutter, 70% Gain, no Gamma.

62 degree pass for six minute duration

Thanks,

Shadow rays to Tycho

Posted By Wesley Higgins

Hi,

It's been cloudy for so long here in Oklahoma that I went searching for some images I had not processed yet and found this image taken on 10/18/03.
The twin shadow rays pointing to the rim of Tycho add some
interest to the image other wise I probably would not have posted the image .

14.5 Starmaster working at F/30, 830 frames, Toucam Pro,
10FPS.

Clavius Large DKM 21F04 Firewire

Hi,

I finally had some better seeing to try out the DKM Firewire
camera.
Stack of 144 from 2000 , 30FPS, 1/1024 shutter, 35% gain.
14.5 Starmaster @F/35

The image is so large you might want to back off from the screen a little to view it smile
