Religion Tax

Posted By Jim Johnson

http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-202_162-57522674/for-germans-religious-membership-comes-with-price/

In America, we don't tax churches. In Germany and a few other European countries the government taxes registered church members and hands the money over to the state! In Germany if you don't pay the tax you may soon be denied basic church services.

If this was the law in the US, how many would remove themselves from the church rolls to avoid paying a 9% tax? I think we would have more "nones":

Flipper or True Moderate?

Posted By Jim Johnson

http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/ticket/appeal-swing-voters-romney-offers-more-centrist-message-133029754--election.html

Is he flipping on issues to secure the swing vote or is he a moderate who tried to pass himself off as more conservative to get the Republican nomination?

My vote for him is based on my belief that is a moderate.

Debate Fact Checks

Both guys had some misstatements. Didn't like the way they kept interrupting each other. Biden decided to come out fighting to make up for Obama but it didn't come off well.

Don't know if it helped either side.

I guess he is to impatient to wait on God to punish. Thank goodness American Christianity has very few of these kooks.

Obama responsible for gas prices?

Posted By Jim Johnson

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2012/10/14/romney-making-gas-prices-domestic-energy-top-campaign-issues/

It is an easy choice for Romney's campaign - gasoline prices have doubled since Obama took over. This is indeed true and the recent high gasoline prices in California adds an exclamation point. However, is the Obama administration responsible for this four year increase? I don't think so. Gasoline prices track reasonably well with oil prices (see attached image) and oil prices have doubled in the 4 years. Is Obama responsible for rising crude oil prices? I don't think so as these are global fluctuations. Other than California's refinery issues, domestic gasoline production exceeds US demand to the point that we are exporting gasoline to Mexico and other South American countries. What is Romney going to do differently to lower gasoline prices during his administration as the article claims? He says increase our domestic oil production. Well we have increased our production over the last 4 years and have reduced our imports. That didn't stop the fluctuations in global oil prices or have any effect on gasoline prices. Long-term is where Obama and Romney differ. Romney wants to allow more fracking, offshore drilling and drilling in environmentally-sensitive areas than Obama. If Romney is elected he will pursue this policy but the benefits will not occur until many years later. So what can he do differently that will make a short-term difference?

BTW, I favor the Republicans long-term drilling plans provided steps are taken to minimize damage. This is a bad time to be relying on oil from the Middle East and we should try to be oil independent. We should also lower our consumption of oil as a means of reducing imports.

Pastors to challenge IRS

Is the 1954 law prohibiting tax-exempt organizations from making political endorsements fair? It must not be actively enforced as many churches ignore it.

Romney and gas prices

Posted By Jim Johnson

I still think Romney is our best hope so please right wing nuts don't get your panties in a bunch wink and just give me your opinions and facts if they apply.

How is he going to do that short-term? He says he will open up federal lands for drilling but it will take years before we get oil from those new fields.

The shameful cover up

Posted By Jim Johnson

http://news.yahoo.com/perversion-files-show-locals-helped-cover-181647842.html

Not just the Boy Scouts but Penn State, the Catholic Church and many other institutions where adults come in contact with or supervise minors and haven't been busted yet. Systematic cover up over decades in some cases to protect the "good name" of the organization without a care for the poor kids affected.

The new name for Romney's changing position on some of the issues. Good news says Obama, it's covered under Obamacare as a pre-existing condition.

Sorry conservatives but it is funny.
