Balancing on M81

Posted By dan kowall

I've been trying a new technique for stretching my RGB masters without losing balance while preserving detail. It seems to be working okay. Here it is applied to a test shot of M81.

I like it when things work out.

M 3

I've been doing galaxies and nebulae lately, so this one was a nice change of pace for me.

M 82

Posted By dan kowall

Hello all,
This is turning out to be some sort of benchmark image for me. As I keep learning new processing techniques, I keep returning to M 82 and reprocessing the data. This time I added some Ha to the mix. I'm heartened that at least it seems to be looking better each time. It's no fun taking backward steps.

M 27 Test

Posted By dan kowall

Hello all,
I've been trying to dial in a new mount but when you only have one clear night every couple of weeks it takes a while. I'm down to making the final tweaks on polar alignment but I couldn't resist trying a test image last night. The usual excuses when doing a test image: manual focusing, old flats, wrong darks, and nothing working at its best. I couldn't seem to get the proper teal color on the nebula, either, but it sure was a treat to get something.

Miss or Mosaic? Crescent

Posted By dan kowall

I thought I was taking an image of the Crescent Nebula last night, but after processing, I realized that I only got part of it. In my defense it is rather dim in Ha.
Now I just have to decide whether to file it under 'Misses' or 'Future Mosaics".

Blurry Bubble

Posted By dan kowall

I should have taken the time to refocus before I started this exposure last night. Big D'Oh on my part. Good imaging nights have been infrequent and I hate to waste them.

ST10XME on a 12" reflector at f/9
about 4 hours of Ha at 6nm

Consider this the 'before' of a 'before and after' series.

A Better Bubble

Posted By dan kowall

I posted a blurry Bubble a few days ago (bad focusing).
I reshot it, and this time I was more careful about focusing.
Have a look, I promise this one won't make you cross-eyed.

4 hours Ha, 6nm, in mediocre seeing
minimal processing

Comments welcomed.
