M 27

Posted By dan kowall

I finally got an M 27 worth posting.
It's taken me a while. As with a lot of things, it wasn't so much the destination as the journey; I learned much along the way.

It is better than you think, Eric.
I, too, took the liberty of doing a real quick reprocessing of your image. I just raised and equalised the black points on your three channels.
I hope this helps,

Cocoon, Work In Progress

Posted By dan kowall

Like Emily Littella used to say, "It's always something".
I've been working on The Cocoon Nebula, and I thought I had collected all of the data, but when I went to process I realised that the Ha was collected at a different rotation from the RGB. The combined overlap isn't enough for a decent image so it's back to collection, I guess.
The RGB looks decent, so I thought I'd post that.
Thanks for looking,

This one came out noisier than I would have liked. I guess it goes on the 'redo' list.

Hiding somewhere in the cluster is a planetary nebula, but I can't find it.

M 31 Core

Posted By dan kowall

I'm always impressed by the majesty of this galaxy.
It's too wide for my widefield instrument, but I couldn't resist going after part of it. I would like to do a mosaic of this sometime.
I was just barely able to include part of NGC 206, the beautiful blue cluster, at the bottom of the image, and you can just start to see the haze that connects M 110 and M 31.
Imaged on multiple nights.

As you can see, I lost some exposures but compensated in processing.

NGC 896

Posted By dan kowall

NGC 896 is part of the extended Heart Nebula.
And if the truth be told, this image is only part of NGC 896. My field of view only gets about half of it.
