NGC 7331

Posted By dan kowall

This one didn't turn out as well as it should have given all of the exposure time I put into it. I'll just have another go at it next year.
Image details and a larger image can be found here:

M 82, redo

Posted By dan kowall

A stretch of cold, rainy weather has me redoing old images.
It makes a good case for saving your calibrated masters. As your processing skills improve, so do your versions of that object.
Attached is a redone version of M 82 from last year.
Since I'm too ashamed to show the 'before' image, you'll have to take my word that this one's much better.

NGC 7635

It's taken me a while to both gather all of the data for this one and to find time to process it.
Image details and a larger image can be found here under 'Latest Image':
http://www.photonhunter.com/
but, basically, it's an (HaR)GB from a 12" reflector.

Walkway to the Heavens

Posted By dan kowall

It's taken me a couple of years to get around to putting the finishing touches on my observatory. I just finished a walkway that makes the walk to the observatory a little more pleasant.
You can see construction details here:
http://www.photonhunter.com/walkway.html
or go to my website and look under 'Observatory'.

Rosette in Ha

Posted By dan kowall

Yippee!
I've spent many months trying to put together a widefield setup. It was one of those 'One step up, two steps back' kinds of deals.
Last night was first light.
Image details and more can be found here:
http://www.photonhunter.com/
under 'Latest Image' but, basically, it's 3 hours of Ha with an STL11000 on an FSQ.

HH in Ha

The Horse Head Nebula
The moon and the neighbor's Christmas lights dictated shooting this in Ha.
My obstructed view to the South dictated shooting this over several nights.
Full details and a large image are here:
http://www.photonhunter.com/
but it's basically 6 hours of 6nm Ha with an ST10 on a 12" reflector.

It's a start

Posted By dan kowall

I've never gotten an image of The Orion Nebula for several reasons:
---Its huge dynamic range has frustrated my processing skills.
---It's only visible for a short time each night where I image.
---It's intimidating because so many people have done so many great images of this object.
My plans to image it the other night were thwarted when my camera frosted over, but I had access to a backup camera so I decided to try a test image with that instead. It came out better than I expected.

M42 with New Eyes

Posted By dan kowall

I got a new monitor the other day to replace the small CRT that I've been using. I went to my website to see how the images looked with the new monitor, and was aghast to see how horrible they appeared. Apparently all of the warts that were hidden on the CRT are now glaringly obvious on the new monitor.
What's also obvious is that I'm going to have to reprocess most of the images on my site, but that's okay, I need the practice.
Attached is the first image that I've reprocessed, M42.
A larger image and details can be found here:
http://www.photonhunter.com/M42.html
This is also the first image that I've processed with CCDStack, which seems to work pretty well.
Let me know how this image appears on your monitor.
Thanks,
