The fat lady has sung

Posted By Jim Moscheck

The loooong nightmare here in Detroit known as the Matt Millen Era in Lions history is finally over. I realize the Ford family is loyal to their employees but this was verging on the ridiculous.

Some MM stats:

Eight years: 31-84 record
Winning percentage: .270
Head coaches: 4

And GWB thought his approval rating was low. wink

McCain suspends campaign

Got one for whatever news preference you have. Talk about presumptuous. He's been campaigning for two years and now he wants to pay attention. I thought you said the economy was sound, John.

Maybe he's scared about the debate? No, he's such a patriot he's going to concentrate all his expertise on this financial fiasco that is due to deregulation of the banking industry.

But remember, and this is important, he was against it before he was for it. Regulation that is. And this from one of the Keating Five. There is no shame in Washington.

Where is Palin?

Posted By Jim Moscheck

Hmmm, haven't seen her and her stump speech lately. I suppose she's at an undisclosed location and cramming for the debate. Maybe this economic crisis will go on long enough to postpone her debate, too. Seems to me there's a press conference with her name on it if she'd only come out to play with the boys.

I thought I was set for EPs: I'm a lucky dog!

Posted By Jim Moscheck

I have acquired a nice set of EPs over the past few years, all bought used here at the mart. I have three Naglers, 12T4, 17T4, and 26T5 among a few others. Didn't think I'd ever afford to buy a new Ethos and thought I might be able to get one in a few years used.

Well, I just returned from the Great Lakes Star Gaze and not only had two good nights observing I won the grand prize raffle, a 13mm Ethos! 8) I'm still grinning ear to ear, and got to use it that night. The hype is true and it is a great EP. I looked at Jupiter first(awesome) and M13, M27, and saw dust lanes for the first time when poking around M31. I think it's a keeper! I was amazed at the contrast and the magnification and exit pupil are right at the sweet spot for my dob.

Now what do I do? I figure sell the 12T4 for sure, but should I keep the 17T4? If I sold both I could get an 8mm Ethos and with the 26T5 and 2x Powermate I'd pretty much be set.

Also a question to dob/paracorr owners who have one. The instructions say it's best to use a high hat adapter and the paracorr in the lowest setting. Well, I didn't have enough in focus and had to use it as a two inch with the setting of the paracorr full out. It seems that is is more or less equivalent to the same setting, but TV recommends the high hat. Is this OK or should I cut my truss poles a quarter inch or so to make it usable with the high hat adapter? My poles are cut now so the 26T5 and paracorr have only a little bit in focus in order to illuminate the field as fully as possible. If I cut the poles the other EPs will be racked out the same amount I cut off. Any comments are appreciated.

Cheers,

Debate quote: John McCain: "You know who voted fo

"That one."

That one's, pun intended is going to come back and bite him.

No doubt I lean left and I'm sure they don't agree with me on FOX, but I think Barrack Obama, in the blue trunks, got a TKO over John McCain. Obama was more to the point while McCain was all over the place in their answers.

What do you think?

Is JM losing it? Even SP in the background looks embarrassed.

Troopergate

Posted By Jim Moscheck

I can't believe JM didn't vet her well enough to learn about this investigation. They found her in violation of state ethics law that prohibits public officials from using their office for personal gain. The core voters will not be affected, but this can't be good for the GOP ticket with independents.

Definitely reinforces she's a maverick and not a reformer. We don't need another VP who disregards ethics.

Hockey mom booed at Flyers game

Posted By Jim Moscheck

America's self proclaimed hockey mom Sarah Palin drops the puck and gets booed by Flyer fans.

Gee guys, if a good lookin' gal in a skirt walks out to center ice and gets booed by NHL fans I think old John McCain may have made a tiny little mistake in picking his VP candidate.

And she didn't even stay for the whole game. Geez, what a poser. wink

This one is funny and it isn't photoshoped

To lighten up the mood here is another angle to the shot from the end of debate III after JM told BO "good job, good job", and then turned the wrong way to shake the hand of the moderator. Old John can make some goofy faces, can't he. grin
