Apogee SCT Crayford Focuser - How Good?

Posted By Paul Atkinson

I had this focuser. It is alright but nothing great. The only feature that I REALLY liked was that you could rotate the diagonal without having to loosen it. On the downside it seems quite cheaply made compared to other models that are available like the Feather Touch.

Also, I did a review of the Feather Touch in the articles section where I also speak about this focuser quite a bit in comparison if you take a look. Of course this is just my 2 cents.

Denatured Alcohol for mirror cleaning

Posted By Paul Atkinson

I wouldn't use anything I wasn't 100% sure about. Other than Don's method of cleaning, another good way is using Collodian USP. You can find information on it if you do some searches.

why would someone sell this so soon ?

Posted By Paul Atkinson

Why not? Some here in the forums forget that there are people in our hobby that have a lot of discretionary income. In other words, they can afford to buy and sell items as they see fit without concern for selling or parting with it for reasons some might think odd. Maybe he tried a 5" APO and REALLY loved it and thought, "hey, if a 5" is this good maybe I ought to get a 7", 8" or 9" APO instead..." Who knows.

Sidewalk test continued

I agree with Dan. Although, it clear what you photo is showing, uniform caps on the bottom would eliminate any chance that they are somehow influencing the image.

I use a Celestron C14 and the Feathertouch Focuser. I also did a write up of it in the articles section if you want more information.

Religion the divider?

Posted By Paul Atkinson

Should we really be concerned about what the British think of our election? Or is their view some sort of global approval test that needs to be passed to make having religious conviction in this country acceptable?

At least Kerry didn't use something along Carter's "A Peanut In Every Pot" campaign slogan. Married to Teresa I could hear it now... "Elect me and I will put Ketchup in Every Kitchen...."

Term II: The Social Agenda!

Posted By Paul Atkinson

Ah, good to see our friends on the other side of the isle haven't lost their sense of humor. Now let me get this straight, Rublicans are socialist but the democrats supporting things like federally run health care for everyone, more social handout programs, higher taxes on the rich and middle class to distribute to the poor... and on and on is less socialist? What a joke.

If the democrats can stand it they should read this, since they like to post articles. Mind you this comes from the Washington Post. Not exactly the most conservative paper on the planet.

Democrats Still in the Dark

Posted By Paul Atkinson

Hmmm... lets see... John Kerry... Tom Daschle.... Al Gore... Where's Tom Foley these days? Bagging groceries with Newt? What about George Mitchell?

"Pride comes before the fall" -- Proverbs

Well then the Democrats are sure showing that your scripture quote is correct because the once proud Democratic party can't fall much farther... or can it? Oh, I am impressed you are quoting scripture but, don't you guys believe in the seperation of church and state as it relates to God? I would think that would pertain to your rhetoric in political forums as well.

Whoops - computers giving Bush extra votes in Ohio

Posted By Paul Atkinson

Taken from the MSNBC website today:

Bush’s total should have been recorded as 365.

Bush won the state by more than 136,000 votes, according to unofficial results, and Kerry conceded the election on Wednesday after saying that 155,000 provisional ballots yet to be counted in Ohio would not change the result.

Deducting the erroneous Bush votes from his total could not change the election’s outcome, and there were no signs of other errors in Ohio’s electronic machines, said Carlo LoParo, spokesman for Ohio Secretary of State Kenneth Blackwell.

Franklin is the only Ohio county to use Danaher Controls Inc.’s ELECTronic 1242, an older-style touch-screen voting system. Danaher did not immediately return a message for comment

Paul perhaps if crappy old machines weren't being used this wouldn't have happened. I am sure that ONLY Bush got erronous votes? Yeah, right!
