Thrown for a loop!

Posted By Tom Masterson

Yeeeeeooowww! Is all I can say about today's loop prominence.

I came home from work, grabbed my toolbox and was supposed to work in the yard. Thought I'd take a quick look at the sun first. Instead of doing my "chores" I grabbed my LPI, Meade 140 barlow and fired up my SMn filter. The sun was low in the west but I had to try so I cranked off images until the sun set behind the trees.

Here's a VERY compressed, quickly tweeked, uncropped image of the spectacular loop prominence. After some more tinkering I'll post some others.

Enjoy.

Pssst... I got a secret. Wanna know?

Posted By Tom Masterson

Ok, promise not to tell anyone and I'll tell ya.

The title of this thread should have been: "PST - gotta secret wanna know".

I just received it on good authority that a new PST is about to hit the market this fall. This version will be a Calcium-K model and is expected to come to a dealer near you around November. Same price as the current PST. grin

All I can say about this is WOW! Gotta have one! Me first, me first!

I wonder if there'll be one to look through at the Hands on Observing the Sun conference next month??? If so I expect to wrap my fingers around it and not let go! Let's just hope my middle aged eyes can focus the violet image. YIKES! 8O

Get in line folks. Uhhh, behind MEEEE of course! wink

Almost Live image from a Cak PST at HOTS

Posted By Tom Masterson

Ok, three of us were able to steal away the demo Calcium-K PST today. We attached a Meade DSI-Pro and snapped some frames through the window of a closed door in the conference room. WOW that was fun!

Here's the image quickly processed in Registax and Photoshop. Not bad for shooting through a window.

I'll give a more in depth report later.

Making imaging headway with a Cak-PST

Posted By Tom Masterson

Last Saturday was B E A U T I F U L, so I sneaked away from my chores and spent some time with my Cak-PST. The sun is finally high enough to clear the trees for the whole day. This gave me more time to twiddle with the camera and scope - things are looking up.

The gain was turned up a little too high so the center of the sun was a little burned out. I was able to do some correcting so the image was a keeper. Only my second time out with the camera.

Details:

Neptune 100n B&W video camera
Avi captured with WinTV2K capture board
100 Frames stacked in Registax
Colorized in PhotoShop 6.0

WOW! The Sun continues to put on a great show. Despite a failure in my image capture software, I was still able to put together a couple shots.

Here they are.

And the hits just keep on comin'

Posted By Tom Masterson

Most of the time I'm lucky to get one good imaging session in 5, but the past couple days the solar gods have been smiling at me.

Here's todays images - each a combination of two images combined in PhotoShop v6 after stacking in Registax v3

Enjoy.
