M33 - ST-10XME test

Posted By Thomas V Davis

Hi Everyone,

I hope you had a great Thankgiving.

Here is an image that I took earlier this month after I recieved my ST-10XME. I used this target to test the saturation point of my system. I didn't spend a lot of time taking the data, so it's not the best image. The total times were also pretty short, but it shows the sensitivity of this camera.

Image specs:

AP155EDF f/7
.67x reducer
ST-10XME
LRGB 33:15:15:15 min.; 3min frames
Astrodon filters

Using film -- ah the memories! M8 revisited

Posted By Thomas V Davis

Hello Everyone,

I normally post on the CCD forum, but tonight I was cleaning out some drawers and found my CD's that contain some scanned print film negatives that I took in 2002. Since 2002 I have switched to CCD imaging. Anyway, back in 2002 I was very frustrated with the challenges of processing my images. My computer was slow, the files were big and frankly I didn't know what I was doing. Now, after CCD imaging, my processing skills are better (but admittedly I still have a ways to go).

I reprocessed my images of the M8 region taken July 2002. Here is what I got (this is much better than the result I got two years ago).

Image specs:
Tele Vue 101 f/5.4
Kodak 400P print film
3 - 50 min images combined and processed with Maxim and PS
Taken with my old (and dusty) OM-1

Thanks for allowing me to share and to those of you using film, keep up the good work!! Film is still fun!!!

.67x reducer
ST-10XME Ha(HaR)GB 170sad170:50):50:50 min.; 10 min frames

North America Nebula

Posted By Thomas V Davis

Well, the weather is still bad so I got out more of my old film images from days gone by and tried to reprocess them. Here is the North America Nebula from 2002.

Tele Vue 101 f/5.4
Kodak Supra 400 print film
Four 50 min images combined and processed

Most of the frames got their black points clipped upon scanning the negatives, but still, not too bad I think.

Rosette Nebula

Here's another reprocess to wait out the weather-- the Rosette Nebula, again from 2002.

Tele Vue 101 f/5.4
Kodak Supra 400 print film
Two 50 min exposures combined and processed.

IC 434 Horsehead area

Posted By Thomas V Davis

Here's another from 2002. Again, the scanned negatives were black point clipped. I've done the best I could with the data - maybe pushed it too hard!

Tele Vue 101 f/5.4
Kodak Supra 400
Three 50 min exposures combined and processed

Thanks,

Tom Davis

M42 (really pushed!!)

Posted By Thomas V Davis

OK. Here's my last image from 2002. I thank you all for your indulgance of letting share my revisited and preprocessed images. This image has been massaged and washed through PS rather aggressively. I know it's not the best one of M42 but I wanted to see how much data I could squeeze out of the film. Due to the aggressive processing some of the colors have suffered.

Tele Vue 101 f/5.4
Kodak Supra 400
Three 15 min exposures combined and processed

Thanks again,

M42

Posted By Thomas V Davis

The weather has been very unstable this last month so I have not had alot of imaging time. I did get a little window through the clouds so I took M42.

Image specs:
AP 155 EDF f/7
ST-8XE HaRGB 60:25:25:25 min

Processed in Maxin and PS CS. Even though the color histiogram is pretty balanced I think the image is a little off -- I'll try to adjust this.

I pushed the data to bring out faint portions.

Hope your weather is better than mine,
