IC1275: In the shadow of M8

Posted By Thomas V Davis

IC1275 is just east of its much more famous neighbor M8. It is often over looked by imagers in favor of glamous M8. I decided to give it some imaging time all to its self. North is up in this image. I like the central "snakey" dark nebula!

A Splash of Summer Color

I've been wanting to try this one for a while ... Antares-Rho region. It's a challenge to process.

M8 Ha -- two views

Posted By Thomas V Davis

I took this last night. I processed one mild and the other aggressive. The mild is smoother, the aggressive much more dramatic in bringing out the Bok globules. I like them both.

Here is the mild one. The more aggressve is on the next post....

M57 -- waiting for the clouds to go...

Posted By Thomas V Davis

I've been wanting to get some Ha images in Cygnus, but the clouds have been not cooperating so I took a few quick and dirty shots of M57. My short focal length is not best for this object, but I had to shoot something!!

Despite the short imaging time I even captured a little of the spiral galaxy IC1296 -- seen here just "up" from M57. Aren't CCD's amazing!

Cocoon Nebula region in Ha

Posted By Thomas V Davis

Hi Everyone,

I wanted to get the color data before releasing this one but the forecast is for clouds throughout the next few days (hence my new Avatar!). Anyway, this is of the IC5146 (Cocoon Nebula) region done in Ha with a little red filter included to bring out the stars. I purposefully offset IC5146 so to show a portion of the dark nebula B168.

I think it will look cool when I get the color data. But until then....

Cheers,

Still waiting for the clouds to go.......

Posted By Thomas V Davis

I reworked some old data from earlier this spring. This is of the M81/M82 region. I tried a different galaxy color processing algorithm this time. It seemed to have bring out the HII regions much more sharply than my prior attempts. Sort of an interesting look.

I need a really big fan to blow the clouds away!!

Finally!! The clouds left.... Cocoon (HaR)RGB

Posted By Thomas V Davis

Last night was clear so I got the color data for the Cocoon Nebula. It was amazing! No clouds, no wind, AND no moon!! What a treat.

My first M31 of the year

Posted By Thomas V Davis

I've always been fascinated by the object. I shoot it every year, and this years is no exception. Here is my first attempt this year. I'm not done yet, but it looks good so far I think. I love the spiraling dusk lanes near the center -- not often seen at my aperture size.

First attempt at Bubble Nebula

Posted By Thomas V Davis

Well, I'm not overly pleased with how this came out so I'm going to shoot some Ha data to add. I want to try to bring out more of the surrounding nebula. Never the less, I've always missed this one in past years due to weather or down equipment so I had to try.

I'll reprocess and repost after I add the Ha data -- hopefully it will be better.

North America Nebula in H-alpha

I want to get more data but the forecast calls for increasing clouds, so I thought I'd release this one early. I've always liked the NAN better in Ha light than color. Color seems to wash out the detail. Anyway, Here is my NAN until I can get more data.
