[COLOR="Purple"]Here's another pic...a little more open now. If anyone knows what this is, I would appreciate knowing.

Looks kind of familiar but not sure...do you have a picture of the whole plant?

On the Leafy Trails of Mattheissen SP

Posted By Christine Canelos Welsh

This is Lake Falls, where the water tumbles over the lip of Mattheissen Lake. At the top is a former one-lane "highway" bridge.

Or Hydrophyllum appendiculatum for those that can pronounce that. wink

Not only can I pronounce it, I can use it in a limerick....

Along wooded pathways we got ’em,
Look closely and you’re sure to spot ‘em.
In lilac or white,
They’re such a delight:
Hydrophyllum appendiculatum

The Hunt for Fred

Posted By Christine Canelos Welsh

I was also very disgusted by this story. Especially after previously hearing the story about the record "wild" boar.

Coming from a hunting family myself, I am also thoroughly repulsed by the concept of an enclosed hunting preserve. Shooting an animal that has little chance to escape is not much to be proud of, and certainly has nothing to do with why hunting has an effective and credible place in game management.

And why the heck was a kid given a pistol to hunt with, when he was expected to be up against a "wild boar"?

ISS and Shuttle.

We were able to see it on the 19th & 20th, both very favorable viewings. I always find it very inspiring seeing manned spacecraft flying over. I managed to catch a picture (though not the greatest) on both nights. Here's the first, from the 19th.

ISS & Shuttle image - from the ground!

Posted By Christine Canelos Welsh

A big "wow" - but when I saw the name I was not at all surprised! Ron Dantowitz has been at this for a while and is incredibly adept at getting these types of images. Ron has captured many images of the shuttle in flight, as well as Spaceship One, winner of the X-prize. Not only that, he's a really cool guy - had the pleasure of meeting him at the NCRAL convention last year. Kudos to him!
