Approximate size of Astromart community?

Posted By Anthony Lutton

Does anyone know the size of the Astromart community? I see a lot of the same names here on the forums, but of course that is a small sampling of the total # of registered, active users.

No real reason why I want to know, just curious I guess...

Re: best telescope (optically and deep sky)

Posted By Anthony Lutton

For deepsky, the only way to get the best views is large aperture and dark skies. 90% of the answers will be large dobsonian telescopes with high end mirrors...

Mag1 portaballs and Starmaster telescopes with Zambuto mirrors, Obsession telescopes and clones with Swayze, Royce, Pegasus, Nova and other top glass is what will give you the best views.

Nothing will make up for superb dark skies though.

Re: Can I use a Meade #140 Barlow in my ETX-105

Posted By Anthony Lutton

Either will work fine. The ETX can accept any 1.25" barrel eyepiece/accessory.

Any gamers out there?

Posted By Anthony Lutton

Anyone here play PC games? I play Unreal Tournament 2004, Battlefield Vietnam, Tribes 2 and Lock On: Modern Air Combat quite frequently.

I play in a few "clans" for Unreal Tourn and Tribes, but just play on my own for the other two.

If anyone plays and wants to join up and have some fun let me know! I use Xfire as a messenger program and Teamspeak.

Re: Peterson EZ Focus Upgrade for LX200s

Posted By Anthony Lutton

David, I'd check out www.mapug.com. There are TONS of instructions on how to install focuser mods.

As for dealing with Peterson Eng, I've had a few emails with him and bought 2 items from him and he's always been really nice. I hope your incident was an isolated case.

Anyways, the Meade user group above should help...

larger dobs and finders

Posted By Anthony Lutton

For those who have larger scopes (14" and above?), do you feel that having an optical finder along with a telrad/rigel is necessary? I am getting a f/4.7 14" dob and wondering if I'd use an optical finder. On my 80mm refractor I only use a red-dot finder, and my SCT is goto in which I never really need a finder after alignment.

I DID use my 8x50 finder a lot with my older C8, but at f/10 a red-dot only would be maddening.
