Mars on Provia 100

Posted By Jose Suro

I guess a pretty rare Mars image on film. Had a few shots left over the other night so I finished the roll with 8 images of Mars. Stacked the best three and here's the result.

Used a Celestron NexStar 11 GPS with a Nikon N50, AP projection adapter and a 7mm Nagler.

Moon on Provia 100

Posted By Jose Suro

It's good to be back to the solid feel of a 35mm film SLR after shooting at Mars with a digicam for the last 2 months. This image is a 13 day old Moon taken on 9/9/03. It's two images stitched together because my scope won't cover the whole Moon at prime focus.

Celestron NexStar 11 GPS at prime focus, Nikon N50, Provia 100F, 1/250 sec. exposures. The only processing, other than stitching the two images, was a slight increase in contrast. The image was reduced 50%.

After shooting a lot of digicam images, I can now say that the one thing digicams are still lacking is the subtle variations in tonal range as compared to film - a very important aspect not to be ignored.

Dear Herb,

I don't know you personally but I would like to extend my most sincere thanks to you and your outfit for your outstanding contribution to the amateur astronomy community. Your contribution is selfless - even when considering just your bandwith, albeit a small part of your overall effort. This just goes to show you are above and beyond any and all of the many astronomy sites out on the net. There are really no words that can express my gratitude for your contribution. Count me in as one of your loyal customers.

Digicam Saturn

Posted By Jose Suro

Hi all,

No, it's not a "Wes" shot smile, but I think it came out pretty good based on it being only a 19 image stack in so-so seeing.

Celestron NexStar 11 GPS in Alt/Az mode, 10mm Radian and Tele Vue Radian Adapter, using an Olympus C4000Z digital camera at full zoom. 35 2288X1712 exposures at F2.8 - 1/2 second, of which 19 were processed in Registax 2 and PhotoShop 7. The seeing was 4/10 Pickering, with high frequency undulations, and the transparency was perfect at 6/6.

My First Jupiter

Posted By Jose Suro

Hi all,

Took my first shot ever at Jupiter with my Olympus C4000Z digicam and NexStar 11 GPS. Had to shoot with about 5 degrees clearance from the roof of my house but the seeing was pretty good. 29 images stacked in Registax 2. Not a lot of processing because of time constraints.

Tripod Constellation Shot

Posted By Jose Suro

Hi All,

Took a shot at Aquila with a tripod mounted Nikon N50 at 35mm and 30 seconds exposure with Provia 400f. The picture is on a link because I did a mouse-over thing to show the constellation outline.

The picture is here:

Digicam Saturn

Posted By Jose Suro

Hi All,

Shot this one last night. It is a test of a theory in another group that suggests using only 640x480 resolution and full digital zoom with digicams. It makes sense. This allows a lot more shots to be sequenced in a short period of time. The result looks promising, even though Saturn was up only 35 degrees and I had a bit of dew on the scope's corrector.

The image is the full 640x480 frame. NexStar 11 GPS, Olympus C4000Z, Radian 14mm, Registax, PhotoShop 7.
