Pastor announces the burning of the Koran

Posted By Mark Costello III

IMO, little to nothing more than the condemnations that the Christian leaders have issued to date. It appears that it's this one Pastor Jones who has a congregation of 50. If it was going on in a Charlotte area church with 50 people, maybe our minister might want to spend a couple of minutes on it. Here, it should be left to the Gainesville churches to say anything more about it. I'm guessing that Pastor Jones is slurping up and feasting on all the attention he's getting. Why pile up the plate higher and deeper?

Best,

End the sabbatical...can there truly be nothing?

My position as a Christian is: God always was, is, and always will be (Gen 1:1, Is 57:15, John 1:1, Rev 1:8). Whenever the universe was made, He was there to make it and did make it.

That's a little embarrassing, at least to me. 8O

Here's a link to the poll, or maybe it was a sample of the poll. It has 15 questions. Just for jollies, I took it and missed one.

Say it isn't so...

Posted By Mark Costello III

There might be a couple of things going on here:

1) Voters might be dumping on the "President du jour." I personally hope this isn't the case.

2) The president might really be doing a disasterous job. A little personal disclosure here: I didn't vote for Barack Obama in 2008 and will not in 2012. But I don't think that EVERYTHING he's done is bad (I think he's doing OK in carefully getting us out in Iraq and is at least up to now doing so-so or OK in stopping Islamic terrorism). So I don't believe that EVERYTHING the President has done is an absolute disaster.

3) It's possible that people might be taking a second look at the previous President. It might be too early for this to be the cause but it probably will be that in 10-15 years people will say that President Bush is much better than they are saying now. It's happened in my lifetime. In 1963 people were saying that this guy was terrible as president. Now he's ranked around #8 or so.

Happy Holyday's My Astrofriends

Posted By Mark Costello III

Hi Refet,

Thanks very much for the best wishes for what is to me and some others a Holy Day. While mostly lurking, I've seen your posts and in particular have been impressed by the links you provided to both your astro photos and pictures showing the advances the Arabs contributed to the sciences of astronomy and navigation. As a small return, I'll post links to some Choral pieces that get sung this time of the year in symphony halls or better yet, in churches. They are a bit different, all of them written within the last 70 years. All of them point to the Son of Man who came not only to save His people but also came to be a light to Gentiles like me (Isaiah 49:6). I've been in choirs that have sung these and over the years they have stuck with me. When I'm under the stars at this time of the year (as I was looking at M31, the double cluster, and the Great Nebula of Orion), these pieces ring in my mind, I can hear them again. Hopefully it will be so with you.
