The most recent searches by the FBI were consented to by Biden and his aides. So far, there is zero evidence that Biden intentionally mishandled classified documents, and he certainly has not been trying to hide it. He will pay a significant political price for this carelessness, but criminal charges seem almost impossible. Especially when you consider the mountain of evidence against Trump for willingly mishandling documents and his lack of cooperation and obstruction, and yet still, there seems to be no clear path to an actual indictment. Biden will not be indicted for anything, and it's completely unknown at this time what political price he will pay.

A recent Quinnipiac poll shows that most Americans view Biden's problem as severe but not criminal. They seem to see the difference between Trump's misdeeds and Biden's carelessness and do not think Biden should face criminal charges. I'll repeat it; Biden will never be charged over this.

Hi James:

The Q poll did not ask whether Trump should face charges over his mishandling of documents, unless I missed it.  I agree that Biden will never be charged for mishandling documents.  Neither will Trump get charged for mishandling documents.  That cake was probably baked when Clinton wiped her server.  It is certainly a totally baked cake now.  No former, sitting, or potential president is going to get charged for mishandling sensitive government information.  Unless of course the government can prove they sold it to the Chinese or Russians, or something overt like that.

Biden's cooperation does stand in contrast to Trump's, but Biden is not as clean as he could be.  According to the Washington Post this weekend, Biden's team knew about the first batch of documents at least before the midterms.  No announcement was made until after the midterms.   That sure strikes me as more than convenient.  Jim

Here is a timeline from a reputable source:

This is no longer just a story for the alt right press.  I agree with Greg that Biden is toast in 2024.   I view this as good news for the Democrats and the Country.  Hell, I feel like I have mentally slowed a bit, and I'm in my 60's!  There is no way an octogenarian is competent to run the country.

When will the decision to shelve Biden occur, and who are the D's going to run instead?  Those are big time political questions that bear watching over the next several months.  Jim

If Trump can get away with all his wrongdoing and fraudulent and criminal behavior, it will take a little more than a few classified documents to end Biden's term early. Trump destroyed and undermined almost all of our norms and expectations for elected officials. It's hard to imagine anyone else outdoing him at this point.
Fair points, I took Greg's comment to mean in 2024.  The sun will cease to shine before Biden is impeached and removed before his end of term for mismanaging documents.  I suppose he could be convinced to retire early, but I would guess that is less than 1% likelihood,  barring some sort of medical emergency.

I read in the WSJ a few weeks back that Biden's trip to El Paso was a clear signal (in the author's opinion)  that Biden intends to run again in 2024.  That seemed plausible to me at the time.  The Q poll shows that people of all stripes rate Biden poorly on the border issue, although his plan going forward is well received, by Democrats at least.  A lot has happened since Biden announced and executed his trip to El Paso.  As of right now, I'll be surprised if he chooses to run again in '24.

The oligarchy exists in your country and mine and all over the world.  They are doing what they feel is necessary to preserve their power and wealth.  Democracy for all is poison to them.  A truly knowledgeable and educated middle class with the vote is what they hate the most.  Monetary control of political decisions is their modus operandi.

I marvel at middle class folks who continue to choose to support their oppressors.  Especially in the USA whose entire existence is due to getting rid of their oppressors.

David,

I find the socialist crappola you post very entertaining.  Keep it up.  It provides balance here.

My family was reasonably poor when mom and dad married in the late 50's.  But they valued education, and I am glad for that.  Me and my brothers no doubt benefited in some way from being white males, but that is not the sole reason we are all now, 60 years later, what you would call "wealthy."  Hard work, a good public education system, and parents who valued education and hard work is the key.  America has these keys to success.  The US is still the land of opportunity.  Sure we have super wealthy, "oligarchs" as you would call them.  But do they seriously call the shots from the dark recesses of smoke filled rooms?  Hardly.  Do they really not give a flying flick about the people who man their empires?  Not in my experience!

I heard on the radio yesterday afternoon that Warren Buffet just passed 50 billion USD in charitable donations as of last year.    If you listed the 50 wealthiest "oligarchs" in the United States, I wonder how many jobs you could attribute directly to these men, women, and families.  Millions of jobs?  Tens of millions?  The tech revolution has produced some extremely wealthy people, that is for sure.  But why did the tech revolution arise and blossom here in North America, Europe, Japan, and Korea, and not in Russia or China?

This could have been cribbed from a bonfire-lit speech by Che in his heyday.  If Democracy is poison to the "ruling class" here in the states, they are sure doing a crummy job eliminating it!   We do in fact have fair and free elections and more so than ever, the elected class is opposed to our "oligarchs."   The US is trending toward the left, obviously.  Not the other way around.

I'm curious if you have any rational basis, anything specific at all, for calling the super wealthy in the US "oppressors."  Is it oppression to provide good jobs?  I think, on the contrary, that to a certain mindset "success" is necessarily predicated upon "oppression."  That viewpoint is great for lefty screeds, but not reflective of reality.

Hi Rich:

I quit watching the NFL because the home team sucks.  sad

I have college basketball though!  Go Boilers!  (A reference, David, to a US public school that is famous for putting graduates on the moon, and more recently having a conservative president (former R governor) who held the line on tuition increases for a decade.
