M1 LRGB

Posted By Tom Osterholt

This is a LRGB image of M1 thru my C11,F6.3, with my ST7, L=1200,R=900, G=900, B=1200. I am processing with Photoshop but I am having trouble getting colors. Should I be processing the individual images (curves) to increase the color before I merge them? Thanks for any help, Tom

M51 with ST7

Posted By Tom Osterholt

This is a 900 sec.& 1200 sec. Lum. images that I took early this morning, I stacked them and processed in photoshop. Shot thru my C11 at F6.3, at full resolution with my ST7. I was going to try an LRGB image but I knew I was running out of time. Tom

CCD Camera upgrade?????

Posted By Tom Osterholt

Hi All,
was wondering if anyone can help me out there. I dicited to sell my ST7 (non E) camera and move up to either a ST2000XM or wait around for a used ST8e to come up on Astromart. Looking at the images that you guys are posting
the ST2000XM looks pretty good for the price and its Brand new! Has anyone experience with both cameras and what do you think??
Thanks, Tom

New ST2000xm or used ST8E

Posted By Tom Osterholt

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone could give me some advise on a CCD camera purchase. I sold my ST7 so that I could upgrade to a used ST8E but I've seen some stuff from the new ST2000xm and it's pretty impressive. I would probably pay about the same for a used ST8e as New ST2000xm so I am in a delemma on what to do. Can anyone explain in laymans talk the difference between the two? I mean, why is the 8E $6000. and the 2000xm $3500. Would a novice like me notice a differnce between the two? I kept my CFW8 to use with the new camera so it will have to be an SBIG. Thanks for any info and direction you can give, Tom

American White Pelican

I took this shot yesterday at a Wildlife Refuge a few miles from my house in central Calif. Shot with a Kodak DX4900 thru a Apogee 80ed scope. I used the Digi-T 18mm eyepiece/adaptor. Still need help with focusing thru the cameras LCD screen in the bright daylight. I ended up useing a black sheet as a shroud, I must have looked like a fool! Glad nobody was around but the birds!

Killdeer and nest of eggs

Posted By Tom Osterholt

I took these pictures yesterday with a Kadak DX4900. The Killdeer was dancing around like crazy in front of my car on an old gravel road. It finally limped (faking an injury)
off the road. I found the nest in the middle of the road just in front of my car.

Question to the experts, which camera?

Posted By Tom Osterholt

Hi all,
I am getting ready to up grade from my ST7 to either a ST8 or ST2000xm. I already own a CFW8, It looks like I could find a used 8XE for about the same price as a new ST2000xm but I'm not sure which would be my best bet. I wiil be imaging thru a C11 and a Vixen 102ed, sometimes maybe a 80ed. My imaging is just for fun and my own pleasure so I don't need anything real scientific, The more simple the better. Is there a big imaging differnce (quality of image) between the two. I know they each use a diffent chip, but what is the big differnce between the two that makes the ST8xe twice the price of the ST2000xm? Thanks for any info, Tom
