Philosophy & Religion Forum

Posted By Darian Rachal

It appears that the P&R forum will very soon overtake the Observing Forum in number of posts & will be the 4th most popular forum. It's interesting to see what amateur astronomers are really interested in :-) DR

Threat to freedom?

Posted By Darian Rachal

As Rod Serling used to say; for your consideration, who is a greater threat to freedom, Iraq or the Federal Government? DR

Meteorite burgler?

Posted By Darian Rachal

A number of years ago, perhaps as many as ten, there was a well known meteorite seller/collector(who I believed advertised in S&T) who was arrested in a South American airport. In his possesion was an extremely valuable meteorite that he managed to steal from a museum. Does anyone recall this incident & what became of this fellow? I presume he's not still lanquishing in some SA jail, somewhere?

Gods & Generals

Posted By Darian Rachal

Anybody see this movie? I like long movies & this one is almost four hours long. It was nice to see something that doesn't portray the South as evil & gives some idea of what the Confederacy was about. I suspect that the somewhat negative reviews result from this fact. The movie is primarily about Stonewall Jackson.
One poignant scene involves a Confederate Irish brigade realizing that they're having to shoot their fellow Irishmen in an attacking Union Irish brigade; very moving. Mr. Darian Rachal

Red Coats

Posted By Darian Rachal

While driving down to New Orleans recently, I came across some interesting information on the radio. It seems that the British were called "red coats" because the officers wore them. This was so, if they got shot, the blood would not show & upset the enlisted men in battle.

It's the same reasoning for French officers wearing brown pants. :-)

Hope I'm not repeating a french joke already posted. DR
