Wow!

Posted By Ric Merry

I must have overlooked this forum before.
I love combining hobies.
Now if Herb would only put up a motorocycle forum too.
I was so happy a a week ago when I discovered my TV-76 fit into the trunk of my motorcycle.
I already have a 2 meter/440/APRS rig on the bike.
My XYL just shakes her head...she just doesn't understand.

PST 1st light

Posted By Ric Merry

Wow. I got my PST (ordered 12/27 from ATWB) today. 1st viewable day we've had in the great "North Wet" for days. Seeing was poor but I was able to try the supplied EP, 18mm Cemax, TV 8-24 zoom, Nagler type 6 9mm, and Celestron 12.5 Ultima.
Although the clouds really came and went I liked the Nagler 9 the best so far and the Ultima did good too. ALL of the above EP's came into focus.
I am very happy I bought this scope and this was my 1st views ever of H-Alpha. I look forward to summer more than ever! 8)

Orion 80 ED compression ring

Posted By Ric Merry

Just installed a Mercury Systems SFA2 2" brass compression ring. This is the best accessory I've added to the scope and perhaps the cheapest too. I've nearly dropped my TV Everbright off the back end of this scope twice, the SFA2 is cheap insurance and will keep the scratches off my diagonals.

radio (solar) astronomy

Posted By Ric Merry

The local hamfest was today & it got me thinking about selling the IC-735 I never use. I'm wondering about the the potential to use it for radio astronomy. I am currently most interested in solar observing.
Anyone with experience in this field?

Northwest photographers

Posted By Ric Merry

I fantasize about having a BIG lens for birding photography.
Unfortunately a Canon 600mm costs more than my current car.
I'm curious if there are enough NW bird photographers to make the numbers work on a shared purchase. I'm guessing this glass with a stand alone insurance policy for the 1st year would run about $8k. Just an exercise in math basically...I'll probably end up renting this lens from Glasiers for $80 a day for a long weekend this winter.
