GM-8 vs GPDX

Posted By David Tarshis

I know this is an old discussion, but would like some quick info. Equip I have: GP on wooden tripod, 9.25, ED80, Canon 20D. Purpose: I would like to dabble in astro photography and right now I'm considering GPDX with SS2K. Thanks

GPDX, SS2K, and SNP

Posted By David Tarshis

I have Starry Night Pro 5.1 and I'm getting a GPDX with SS2K soon. What can I anticipate as far as getting ASCOM to work? The SS2K has 2.03 that I plan to upgrade to 2.10. Any thoughts or comments. Thanks

Power supply GPDX

Posted By David Tarshis

Just got my GPDX and now need power for it. The manual says 12 volt battery or 12 volt ac adapter that has capacity for 2 amperes. I saw one in the store that only had 500 ma and was guessing that wasn't enough. Recommendations? Thanks

Armed and danerous

Posted By David Tarshis

Ok, so I now have in my possession: GPDX with SS2K (my newest addition, fist light two nights ago 15 minute gap in the clouds, couldn’t wait) Orion ED80, focal reducer for the ED80 (variable), t-ring adapter and camera adapter, Canon 20D and C9.25 and an unfinished 12.5 f/6. So now what? Where am I going to get my best shot? Thru one of the camera lens with the camera mounted on the scope? Thru the ED80? The C9.25 will have to wait for photo ops. It’ll be taxed on the GPDX for photo. I’m a complete noob with this photo thing. Looking for a little guidance. Thanks

First real attempt at astrophotography (M31)

Posted By David Tarshis

So here's my first attempt, and I didn't even use a telescope! 32 exposures, dark, flat, bias and light. Stacked in Deepskystacker, pretty much fumbled through it. Canon 20D, 70-200L IS, 1.4TC for focal length of 280mm (448mm 35mm equivalent) mounted on my GPDX.

Curved Protostar in a truss?

Posted By David Tarshis

I have a curved Protostar that was slated for a tube project. That tube project has now turned into a truss project. Has anyone ever tried to install a curved 180 degree spider into a truss scope?

12.5 f/6.4 project upper cage question

Posted By David Tarshis

I'm using the Krieg book, his formula makes it a 7.5" strut height. The telrad is 8.5" alone. I'm thinking 8.5" - 10". ID I have at 14.25". Any ideas? I'v seen a couple of 12.5's with a 12" upper cage which makes for a longer mirror box, would like to keep mine as short as possible. Would like some input, thanks. Cheers
