Advice sought regarding 2" eyepieces

Posted By Don Wyman

True 2" eyepieces are rarely under 32mm and go to 56mm or so. That being the case they are really only going to give you low power. The 2" eyepieces (Naglers, Panoptics and Meade knockoffs) that are under 32mm usually also have a 1.25" barrel which really tells you that they are 1.25" eyepieces.

So, go out and find a good 2" 32 or 40mm eyepiece such as the University Optics models or other good brand name and drink in big gulps of sky.

Meade OR6mm

No, it's not a Research Grade. The RG Orthos were 4, 7, 10.5, 16.8 and 28mm.

Stupid question about solar observing

Posted By Don Wyman

The H-alpha filters for imaging deepsky objects are totally different than the ones designed for solar use. The only thing they have in common is the name. Neither one can be used for the purposes that the other can. It would be better if they had different names. Then this subject would be put to rest permanently.

Re: 10"f/4.7 versus a 12.5"f/5

No one called you a liar. I just said that I don't feel that your comparison is valid. Or is everyone in the world supposed to accept it as gospel just because you said it is so?

most disliked scope?

Posted By Don Wyman

Wow, sorry to hear that. One of my most liked was a Meade 7" Mak OTA. Fantastic images.

Least liked? Either an Astroscan or a Celestron C90 Astro. Couldn't wait to dump either one.
