Mid ninties Vixen Made First scope 80

Posted By Harry Aiello

I have one of these. Unfortunately I don't know a lot about telescopes as I have only been in the hobby for about six months. I don't know if mine is a Vixen though although it is from the same era. It has blue coating on the objective. I got it for the cold , damp winter nights for the cooldown issues that I learned about on this forum. One night last winter I had this scope over 200 power and star images were just like those in the pictures on the instructional sites. It does not star test the same inside and outside of focus though. It will always work with more power per inch than my reflectors though. Sometimes I forget that it is just a 3" scope. Wish I could help more. I like mine and would never sell it.
Regards,
Harry

Celestron Ultima scopes?

Posted By Harry Aiello

These same interests led me to a search for a Celeltron C-5 spotter. I had an interest in color correction above 800nm though. There are pictures in the Wildlife and Birding section with the C-5. I'm sure you have received excellent advice from Rick though.

Nikon E&S Eyepiece Options

Posted By Harry Aiello

Don't know about the eyepiece adapters but Orion sells a 'T' to 'C' adapter if your night scope uses c-mount lenses. Your scope would then be the prime lens. Image intensifiers usually use lenses faster than f 1.5 though but it could probably be used for astro. Afocal terrestrial use would have too much vignetting.

The god almighty dollar

Posted By Harry Aiello

Paul: I'm with you. The auto industry makes money from financing, not cars. Mortgage lenders encourage you to finance more of what you couldn't afford in the first place because of no money down. You stick a plastic card in a pump and gas comes out. If you try to pay for gas chances are you will have to wait for the person in front of you to write a check for a pack of cigarrettes. I don't think many people have even seen a dollar lately, much less figure out what it is worth.

Mojave and Grand Canyon dark skies

Living in Missouri, I absolutely drool over those pictures. I was in that area in 1992 and it was the best vacation of my life. Great post.

You can't follow instructions? I forgot to put the caps on the bottom so I did a good resolution test on my shoe laces.
