Astrophotography with CG-4 mount?

Posted By Joel Munoz

I've done some fairly acceptable widefield SLR film astrophotography piggybacked on a CG-4 equatorial mount. Now before I move into prime-
focus astrophotography with an old Vixen 4" f/6 reflector and invest on a few more gadgets, what kind of astrophotos can I expect with this mount? Will it be futile? Acceptable? Your thoughts will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Joel

Apogee RA-70-SA?

Posted By Joel Munoz

Hello,
I'm interested in the Apogee RA-70-SA, the smaller sibling of the RA-88-SA. It has been on "pre-order" status at Apogee Inc. for a long time now. An email to them has not been replied. Anybody know when this will be available? Anybody had a chance to look thru these?

Thanks,
Joel

How bad is 1/3 wave mirror?

Posted By Joel Munoz

Hi!
I'm planning to build a fast newtonian as a grab n go scope. Maybe 5" f/5 or 6" f/5 from Meridian: http://www.meridiantelescopes.com/primary.htm. This will be for low power viewing. What performance can I expect from these mirrors?

Thanks,
Joel

How bad is 1/3 wave mirror?

Posted By Joel Munoz

Hi!

Thanks to all for your response! I do realize now that this isn't the way to go. False economy. Anyway, I found another source which says their mirrors are 1/8 wave.

A lot more expensive but I agree with the previous posters that since I'm going thru the trouble, I might as well start it right.

Thanks,
Joel
