My new to me Mewlon 250 S

Posted By Larry Thaxton

Hi Brad,

That is a beautiful scope! The Mewlons are great performers and I came very close to getting a 300 last year, but went a little larger instead. Any thermal problems with the BBQ so close? (Just kidding!!)

Congratulation on the scope, Taks are superb performers!

Any Glock lovers out there?

Posted By Larry Thaxton

Not growing them exactly, but I think the Glock 19 is one of the best trail guns around. It is light, packs plenty of punch and require little care while in the field. I often roam in areas where mountain lion warnings are present. One camp has a prominent warning posted about a cat attacking and mauling a camper, and still on the loose. Sitting aroud the campfire with a single malt and the Glock readily available is still very relaxing.

I share your pain! Down here s the Long Beach area we are seeing very unstable skies which render anything other than relaxation viewing untenable. A brand new, still in the boxes Royce 16" D-K is growing old waiting for better conditions! Lew did say a "blood sacrifice" didn't he, no mention of requiring a virgin. After all, this is California and blood is at least potentially doable.

Nice picture Ron, it conveys a sense of personality. What were you using to capture it?

I actually ran into another rare Cave, this one is a one-off custom scope made for a famous amateur and author of the era. As a teaser see the attached file.

Another picture. I am told there were 100 of these produced for Japanese planetary observers. Only a few have managed to get to the US.

your most used scope

I have a large equatorial mount (HGM-200) on rollers so it is pretty easy to get out with my FS-152. If I have to carry the scope out it is either a Celestron C102F or an MN61 with either mounted on a Vixen Super Polaris. In days past it was a Cave 8" f/8 on rollers. Easy in and out..

Parallax Instruments

Posted By Larry Thaxton

Hi Paul,

Joe at Parallax is a pleasure to deal with. I owned one of his 150 series mounts and liked it a lot. Anytime I had a question or needed something done, he was right there and handled things quickly. His D-Ks are a little heavy which complicates things, I prefer Bob Royce's open truss design but if Bob is not making them...

Another intriguing D-K, very minimalist but plenty expensive:

Hope this helps!
