I've gone cross-eyed

Posted By georges kallay

Need some help with a dilemma I am faced with. The budget I have is $2000.00, I live in south florida(humid), didn't like my old lx-10, will be observing mostly the moon and planets. Should I buy an orion intelliscope and mount a pronto to it or does any one have other choices. Go-to would be nice.

Re: Stellarvue 102DN opinions or options

Posted By georges kallay

I am considering buying a 102 f/6 and putting it on a televue mount with or without the sky tour option. Are there better alternatives in or around this price range. Viewing will only be visual, no ccd or photo. Is the sky tour option worth the big bucks.

Re: SV102DN or ORION ED80

I am thinking of buying my first refractor and would like some help from people who have "Been there, done that", and or regretted their past descisions. If you had to do it over again with 2000.00 to burn, want to put it on a televue tripod and have sky tour on it or is there cheaper alternatives to sky tour? Thanks -GK-

Re: Cool down time?

Posted By georges kallay

I have heard and read alot about the process of cool down in MCT's and SCT's. My question is that I live in south Florida where temps rarely drop below 40-50 degrees, is this such a great issue at these temps and is the humidity level a concern? I am considering buying a MK66 or MK67 and am wondering if I will have to wait 1 hour for it to cool down?

Re: Will C8 hold it up

Posted By georges kallay

I am looking for a go-to scope and would like to get some input on whether the advanced C5 GT mount will hold up the C8 and a piggybacked ED80. The ED80 is only 5 pds more and I have seen these combos on the Meade set-ups. Any help would be appreciated.

SONY ccd cam corder question

Posted By georges kallay

I humbly ask for your advice since I am new to the astrophotog scene. Here's my question (in one whole breath), after straining my eyes reading for hours for the last few nights about all of the options and comparisons in this field, I am wondering if I am over looking a usable tool that I already own. My video camera is a sony ccd trv65 and has alot of features built in it, the lens is f4.1 and has an optical zoom of 18x, it also has steady shot. I want to use it in conjunction with a tv monitor for real time viewing since it is way more sensitive than my eyes, and also I don't want to go out and buy $7,000 worth of equipment if I can get quality images and info out of this thing. Can anyone offer advice on what to do if you were me? ccd is out (no lap top) and digital camera is a last resort. thanks -GK-

real time imaging

Posted By georges kallay

I need some advice on how to real time image on a T.V. monitor set up next to my scope. I was wondering if there is a way of using a Toucam or other such device hooked up to my MN56 and view the image through a television. Can this be done and if so, what hardware would be needed to link the webcam (using a USB interface to the RCA or Coax cable? After all, it is a camera right? Should it not be a cheap fix for a much more sensitive eyepiece?
Thanks -GK-

Re: What would you do if?

Posted By georges kallay

I ask you a simple question.
What would you do if you were to start all over again with the knowledge you now posses regarding astro-imaging and or photo?
This is where I am right now, I have been enjoying my Intes MN56 for over a year now and am delighted with it's outstanding performance, but I want to delve deeper into the rabbits' hole.
My equipment is as follows:
MN56, CG-5 tripod, Laptop, Max-view 40, tv 2.5 powermate, 9mm, 25mm, and a lot of patience.

Budget is hopefully under 1,000, I want to use it mainly on planets, moon and what ever else I can see here in extremely light polluted South Florida.
If anyone needs help with their golf swing or rules questions, drop me a question, I am a PGA pro and would gladly help you out.
Thanks -GK-

Re: Downloading video to laptop?

Posted By georges kallay

How is this accomplished with only an RCA plug and/or a S video port?
My camera is a Sony CCD TRV65, 18x optical zoom.
What capabilities can I expect from it, and what software should I look for? Any help is much appreciated.
