Nexstar 11 and bluetooth control

Posted By Dan Lamoreaux

I am looking for anyone that has had success or failure of using a Bluestar bluetooth adapter to control a Nexstar 11 with a pc. I know that Starry Night no longer sells one for Celestron scopes. I believe I read somewhere that they had problems making them work dependably. I bought a used Bluestar adapter here on astromart a while back, but it did not have the connector cable with it, so I am looking for the pinout configuration for the cable. I have a Bluestar adapter for a meade scope with cable, but there is obviously some differences either in the cable or how the adapter relays the control data between scope and pc or else they wouldn't sell different ones for different scopes. Any insight on this topic would be appreciated.

Meade 24.5 swa vs 24 Panoptic???

Posted By Dan Lamoreaux

Anyone ever had the chance to compare one of the older Meade 24.5 swa volcano top eyepieces to a Panoptic 24mm or heard of a review between the two? I would like to hear any opinions out there.

Are there ongoing issues replying to ads?

Posted By Dan Lamoreaux

I have now had two people in the last week contact me via PM telling me they had sent multiple replies to some of my ads which I never received. One mentioned in his PM that this seems to happen to some degree. I have been away from AM for some time so I an not up to speed if this is an issue or not. I had been getting many responses to my adds in the previous weeks, but don't at this point know if I have gotten them all. How much of an issue is this?

Curious...no one interested at all in these eyepieces or is it a personal issue? Maybe it's my breath!

Wow, PLEASE READ MY POSTS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted By Dan Lamoreaux

My appologies for the post that I believe Floyd is refering to. I do not read each and every new threat that is created, only ones that strike my interest. After posting a reply to the question about 28-32mm eyepieces I then read the thread about using certain brand names. I went back to that thread to delete my response, but Floyd beat me to it. Since I do not wish to devote the effort to keeping up with these rules and regs., I will return to lurker status so as not to be in violation and cause any further issues. Again my appologies.

Binoviewing

Posted By Dan Lamoreaux

James,

I have 3 pairs of binoviewers. The Siebert Black Nights, Denk standard, and the Denk II with dual arm power X switch so you can see I am a big bv fan. I find it much more relaxing to view through them for extended periods that mono mode. Here are some things you are going to need to keep in mind. I ran some numbers for the Nag 11s you said you want to use. I am not familiar with the AR6, but I very much expect you are going to need an optical corrector to compensate for the added 110 mm or so that the BVs add into the light path. You will not have enough infocus to use them without one. These usually add 1.5 to 2x to the focal length to your scope. If for example you chose the Denkmeier with the 2 arm power switch with the supplied OCS, you would be looking at magnifications at about 150x with the focal reducer switched in, 250x with both arms out, and 450x with the magnifier arm in, the last being, in my opinion, unrealistic for this scope. If you went with Harry's BNs and used his OCS which is 1.5 or 1.8x (please check his site to be sure) you would be at 166x or 200x magnification. This may be the range you are wanting to work in, but it may make you want to rethink the 11mm Naglers as your starting set of eyepieces. Anyway I rarely use Cyclops mode any more unless I need really wide field views which can only be obtained with the 30mm+ Nags and other such style eyepieces.

Through with Discovery Telescopes (Long)

Posted By Dan Lamoreaux

John,

If you happened to use a credit card for the scope purchase, consider contacting them and filing a dispute and explain the situation to them. Some cc companys are very pro consumer and can bring a lot of preasure to bear on sellers. If sellers refuse charge backs from the cc company they risk loosing the right to make sales via that credit card organization. If it is a major one like visa or mc, that can cost them a lot of business.

Hope things work out,
