Bizzare trade offers

Posted By George Kiger

There's a gentleman on CN that is building a 10" achro - he apparently routinely trades dentistry work for his astro equipment needs. I thought he was being clever rather than bizzare.
Anyway, rocks for a good eyepiece? Never!

Help me read an OMI mirror report?

Posted By George Kiger

There is a definite TDE but the magnitude is difficult to determine from the graphs (at least difficult for me). I think it would be very instructive to see if you could detect any improvement in viewing fine planetary detail when the mirror is stopped down to 9.5".

Paint a Tube to Help with Cooldown?

I have a 10" Mak-Newt with a carbon fiber tube that has constant thermal problems and was wondering if painting the tube white would help. This telescope rarely performs well due to tube currents. The only time it performs well is at dusk when the temperature has yet to fall, and then only briefly. I tried fans but that was only a small help. One thing I noticed was removing the dew shield would help but then it would dew up. Any suggestions are welcome.

You likely saw this but just in case . . .
