New Yamal 2000 Year Tree Ring Plots

Posted By Doug Peterson

Briffa responds below, claiming no cherry picking, but then his critics point out the that the entire data set is skewed by one outlier tree! If this was any other field of endeavour, this would be fraud, no one could be this incompetent. No wonder Briffa would not let anyone see his data for a decade.

'As McIntyre points out: “YAD061 reaches 8 sigma and is the most influential tree in the world.”
Seems like an outlier to me when you have one tree that can skew the entire climate record.'

Lord Monckton on GlennBeck FOX tonight, Fri 30th

Posted By Doug Peterson

Here's a link to a story that summarizes the Copenhagen draft agreement http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703574604574500580285679074.html?mod=googlenews_wsj
An excerpt:

... Lord Monckton warns that the aim of the Copenhagen draft treaty is to set up a transnational "government" on a scale the world has never before seen.

The "scheme for the new institutional arrangement under the Convention" that starts on page 18 contains the provision for a "government." The aim is to give a new as yet unnamed U.N. body the power to directly intervene in the financial, economic, tax and environmental affairs of all the nations that sign the Copenhagen treaty.

The reason for the power grab is clear enough: Clause after complicated clause of the draft treaty requires developed countries to pay an "adaptation debt" to developing countries to supposedly support climate change mitigation. Clause 33 on page 39 says that "by 2020 the scale of financial flows to support adaptation in developing countries must be [at least $67 billion] or [in the range of $70 billion to $140 billion per year]."

Any Reports on Zhumell 100 eyepieces?

Rod, Over on CN a user tried them on an 8"F6 newt and while initially they seemed okay when he switched over to Naglers he said he always found better snap to focus. So I guess you get what you pay for. Nevertheless they have the true large fields from a Nagler/Ethos-like exotic design, not just super erfles that are out of focus at the edge like those cheapo bargain 80s.

The So-Called Email Scandal

Posted By Doug Peterson

What part of plotting to subvert the peer review process or destroying data rather than give it up to Freedom Of Information requests is out of context? What part of Trenberth, twice the IPCC lead author, saying privately it is a travesty that we cannot explain the lack of warming--but publicly claiming doomsday--is out of context?

If the emails are out of context, then why doesn't the CRU release all of them in context and put this to rest?

Having a Look at CRU Coefficients

Posted By Doug Peterson

Not only data doctoring but more lies from Trenberth, the IPPCC lead author twice, who is complaining to the media about the stealing of personal emails--but he knows full well the emails belong to the academic institutions and governmental organizations (taxpayers) that employ these criminals, and could be requested by freedom of information requests at any time, er, assuming he hadn't already destroyed them.

Meanwhile another convert to the scientific method rather than slease (Judy Curry, Chair of the School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at Georgia Tech) whose students are dismayed by the email scandal:

At the heart of this issue is how climate researchers deal with skeptics. I have served my time in the “trenches of the climate war” in the context of the debate on hurricanes and global warming. There is no question that there is a political noise machine in existence that feeds on research and statements from climate change skeptics. In grappling with this issue, I would argue that there are three strategies for dealing with skeptics:

1. Retreat into the ivory tower
2. Circle the wagons/point guns outward: ad hominem/appeal to motive attacks; appeal to authority; isolate the enemy through lack of access to data; peer review process
3. Take the “high ground:” engage the skeptics on our own terms (conferences, blogosphere); make data/methods available/transparent; clarify the uncertainties; openly declare our values
