Theophilus & Cyrillus 2005.03.16.

Posted By Oliver Pettenpaul

Hi all,

I was glad to have some clear skies after weeks of clouds yesterday so I gave my C9.25 it's first webcam session at the moon. Seeing was bad and even decreased during the session but I'm surprised that a few acceptable frames exist in the AVIs.
Here's the first processing of the bunch, Theophilus & Cyrillus:

18:41UT
C9.25, Meade 2x Barlow #140, s/w ToUcam ICX098BL @1/33s - 5fps, Astronomik redfilter
2x300 frames stacked, once aligned on Theophilus and once on Cyrillus, results combined

Here the best raw-frame, unfortunately very few of this quality can be found in the AVI:

Clear skies & best regards,
Oliver

Janssen, Fabricius & Piccolomini

Posted By Oliver Pettenpaul

Hi all,

here two more results from my imaging session from the 16th. Some craters and structures aside the well-known "mainstream" formations:

18:55UT - other data and settings like the Theophilus capture.

Janssen is one of the most ancient structures on the moon and experienced many changes over the eons like the formation of the interesting rille-system. The impact crater Fabricius features nice wall structures and a monumental central mountain.

Piccolomini

I used some mild denoising techniques because I had only 300 usable frames per image and applied some carefull resharpening after denoising. Do you also use denoising or do you prefer images without denoising ?

Clear skies & best regards,
Oliver

Lunar mosaic 2005.03.16.

Posted By Oliver Pettenpaul

Hi all,

here's the last result of my latest lunar session, I couldn't resist and had to process the remaining material wink

Full resolution (347KB, 1735p x 939p) can be found here: http://www.astro-imaging.de/astro/images/moon_mosaic_2005.03.16_flat.jpg

Captured with black&white ToUcam and C9.25XLT.
Mosaic composed of 5 patches, each patch composed by two images, each of these images is a stack of 160 rawframes.
Someday I will do a full mosaic but I'll need a maximum size tranquilisers for that wink grin

Cheers & clear skies,
Oliver

Hi all,

here's another image from my session of the 16th:

19:20UT - C9.25, Meade 2xBarlow, b/w ToUcam

Unfortunately I haven't been able to identify the imaged region yet :S Can anyone help me out and knows the captured features ?

Thanks & clear skies,
Oliver

Saturn 2005.04.03.

Posted By Oliver Pettenpaul

Hi all,

The last couple of days have been absolutely cloudless but seeing was never even average. Yesterday I was happy to catch a brief moment of a little better seeing, just some minutes until the wobble returned wink

Cheers & clear skies!

Short Jupiter animation 2005.04.20.

Posted By Oliver Pettenpaul

Hi all,

I was imaging the moon last night and finally I swung the scope over to Jupiter. The gas giant is a difficult target this season for my location with altitudes hardly over 30°. With settings of the ToUcam of 1/100s and 10fps the seeing was just 'frozen' enough to get some AVIs with acceptable sharpness. Nothing great but sufficient for a tiny 3 frame animation without the GRS 8)

Here the details:

I hope the images are not too embarrassing among all your fantastic Jupiter captures.

Cheers & clear skies,
Oliver

Re: A Blue Jupiter

Hi Damian,

holy 8O What a stunning result, even more remarkable considering the wavelength. That island seems to be a real gem grin
Can't wait to see images in longer wavelengths or color wink

Best & clear skies!

Sunspot group AR0779 ? 2005.06.18.

Posted By Oliver Pettenpaul

Hi all,

it's been a long time since I've been imaging the sun. Finally I managed to finish my solar-film filter for my 6" scopes today and conducted a quick test. To my surprise the videos from 13:00 to 14:00 shot direcly over a rooftop - usually not the best seeing one can have - are not that bad. Here sunspot group AR0779 (at least I think so) from 13:42 local time:

Intes MN61, Baader solar film d=5
TeleVue 3x Barlow, Astronomik green filter
B/W TouCam @ 10fps, 640x480 1/100s, some gain
400 frames from 2000 stacked in Registax, image processed twice and registered on each spot

I hope to get some improved results tomorrow morning with better seeing grin

Clear skies!
Oliver

New Philips USB2 webcam SPC-900NC

Posted By Oliver Pettenpaul

Hi all,

looks like a new USB2 webcam from Philips called SPC-900NC will hit the market very soon 8) A datasheet can be found here: http://www.p4c.philips.com/files/s/spc900nc_00/spc900nc_00_pss_eng.pdf
The sensor is a "VGA CCD < 1 lux" so we can assume it's the good old Sony ICX 098BQ. Framerate is noted as 75fps for VGA resolution.
It might not be a Lumenera but a nice device to capture color information besides a monochrome Lumenera.
Let's see when and where I can get one wink

Cheers & Clear skies,
Oliver

Re: Mars reaches 10

Posted By Oliver Pettenpaul

Hi Damian,

outstanding images! Hard to believe Mars is only 10"...
I suppose the two rightmost images in the second row are blue or UV captures ? What filter did you use for the the other b/w images ?

Clear skies & best regards,
Oliver
