This is NOT s.a.a.

It seems like everyone is tip-toeing around exactly what the problem is the Herb is talking about. I feel like I'm the only one that doesn't get it.

Who said what?

HELP: f-ratio as Finicky collimation factor

Posted By Doug Walton

I have a 14.5" f/4.3 Starmaster. Precise collimation is absolutely no problem - takes me maybe 2 minutes max and then maybe 2 minutes again after a few hours if needed at all. IMO the whole fear factor of collimation with faster newts is a lotta hype. But, yeah, there is a bigger collimation sweet spot with a slower mirror.

What's the big deal?

Posted By Doug Walton

There really is no advantage, especially if your viewing is limited to a few pre-set locations.

Canon EOS-10D

Thanks very much to everyone for all the information so far. I've been doing a lot of reading about this and other digital cameras and my understanding is improving. The spot metering thing is something I had not thought of.

Lake Superior Reflection

Thanks youse guys! I appreciate the evaluations - and now I'm gonna go have some beer and watch the Packers. ;-)

I've seen one great pic after another here (and on the bird forum), and it's fun to contribute one myself.

Thanks again,

Scenery shots of the new snow

Lovely images, Tyler. I lived out west in Colorado for 21 years before moving here to the shores of Lake Superior. Whether in Arizona, Colorado or the other Rocky Mountain states, there is nothing quite like the views out there. Your images make me miss the mountains and the West in general.

Thanks, Doug
