Unpopular Craters

Posted By Damian Peach

Hi Wes,

Thats and interesting shot. Its great to see some of the Moon's rarer delights. That small crater above centre seems to have a faint ueven ring of material inside it, and i thought it was another concentric crater at first...

The Moon is becoming well placed in the morning sky around last quarter now...i am sure youre looking forward to it smile

Hi Wes,

A lovely image, and most interesting. I just spent a while comparing my best Barbados shot of that crater with your latest one. Both are at very similar illumination, so you can compare well. They look almost identical in resolution, and image scale...

This is interesting as it seems the seeing you had this night was the limit of what the 9.25" produced at Barbados under excellent seeing. I'd be interested to hear your comments on the seeing for that shot. It could go some way to provide more of an understanding at what level the big scopes leave the smaller ones behind on the Moon.

Mars July 23 2005

Lovely shot Wes. Syrtis Major looks quite dark at the limb. Solis Lacus is visible here at the moment...not that i can see much through the rain clouds :S

Seeing forecasts never provide what you expect. Sometimes its right, other times it isnt. Predicting seeing is still a decidedly inexact science...

Hi Mike,

Nice images. Janssen is good. Any tries with Mars yet?. By the end of September things should be looking really good.

I hope your seeing improves. Its taken a turn for the worse here recently...

Hi Alan,

Nice work. Mars is quite a forgiving target under poor seeing. Only when the seeing is horrendous is it impossible. Saturn for example needs very tranquil conditions for nice results. Your B image shows the misty Hellas on the morning limb.

Stofler & Faraday (new camera)

Hi Wes,

Lovely shot. I am right in thinking from the comments in this thread, that you cant run the new infinity camera at say 30 or 60fps at full frame size/max quality?.
