BW OPTIK BINOVIEWER: OPTIMUM EP'S?

Posted By John Levine

What would be the ideal setup for someone who must wear glasses?
Assume three EP pairs, need for good eye relief, and good quality.
Thanks!

Vintage A-P 102mm f/8: ?best mount

Posted By John Levine

This baby arriving soon.
I expect this will primarily be a visual instrument, as opposed to (trying) astrophotography.
Opinions regarding mount/tripod? I really don't want to take out a second mortgage on the house...!
Thanks,

-Jay

Autostar Woes: Whatup wit dat?

Posted By John Levine

I have a somewhat truculant autostar controller with my LX200 classic.
It had been working fine for the past four years, but lately it has "locked up": the keypad would not accept commands, or it would return to the bootup line. After a restart of the system, everything would then be fine - for a while. And then there are times it would seem to be working well.
My connections and power supply seemed to be ok.
Is my controller going bad?
Ideas? Comments?

Thanks,

-Jay

Nagler 20 mm type 2 - Appearance

Posted By John Levine

Just picked up a nice example on the 'Mart.
I noticed that the end of the chrome barrel that screws into the black anodized housing does not sit flush with the lower part of the housing; there is a small "step" there.
Is it supposed to be like that? Should it be able to be screwed in further, so that there is no step, and the top of the chrome barrel sits flush with the bottom of the housing?
Thanks! :S

Thomas Back Passes...

Posted By John Levine

I just found out earlier today that Tom Back passed away.
Like many in our hobby, I considered him a good friend.
A talent like his does not come along often. We in the astronomy community owe him and his legacy a debt of gratitude.
Rest in peace, my friend.
We'll watch for you amongst the stars.

1 1/4"-->2"...?

Posted By John Levine

I have a Universal Denk II setup that has served well, but lately I've been giving serious thought to having a go with a 2" system. It would be mated to any of the following: 18" f/4.5 reflector, 8.25" Achromatic refractor, 11" SCT. I may at some point move up to a C14.
Issues? Thoughts?
Bring it on! grin
