Comet Lovejoy 20131129

Posted By Linton Rohr

Great shot, Dave!
As Lovejoy moves northward, I may be able to see it from our bedroom.
Perhaps I should keep my 8x56 Ultimas under my pillow. wink
I just had one clear night, but another storm is moving in from the NW. Argh!

Comet Lovejoy 20131129

Posted By Linton Rohr

I happened to wake up a bit earlier today and, judging from the Bootes and Corona, I thought Lovejoy might be only 5-10 degrees above the horizon. I don't have much of an extinction problem here and the sky had not even begun to brighten yet, so I thought I might get a better view this time. Took me a minute to find it in my TV Ranger and it was very near the corner of the roof. I couldn't see any tail at all, so I got back in bed and waited 20 minutes for it to clear the roof. When I looked again, I was amused to find that what I had seen before was M13! shocked Hercules was rising and Lovejoy was more to the south than I could see before. Pretty funny. grin So, I did get a nice look... the tail seemed a bit brighter and longer than before. I'd sure like to get a look in one of my Starmaster dobs, but it's been around 0 degrees lately with snow drifts on the patios and I just don't have it in me anymore.

So BFD! Let's see them conceive children now! 8)
You think judicial activism can mandate that, too? :S
Darwinian Evolution should sort things out eventually. wink

I just looked through all the images on your site.
I sure miss seeing you out at Lockwood Valley every month!
We're occasionally down in Castaic for a few days.
I'll have to try to drop in sometime for a visit.

Sunrise over Capitol Reef, Utah

Posted By Linton Rohr

Zoomed in a bit more crops out my roof line, at the expense of some of the higher clouds.
Probably a better shot though, overall. This is taken from a window in my loft.
The Henry Mountains are on the other side of Capitol Reef N.P. and
were among the last mountain ranges in America to be mapped.
John Wesley Powell named them the Dirty Devil Mtns. in 1869,
but they were renamed after some D.C. bureaucrat. Too bad. 8)
