Hi Robert,

A spectacular image with great processing! I can imagine what the images produced by members of this group will be like over the next several months, probably the best ever produced of the red planet.

Mars August 18, 2005

Posted By Edward Roach

Hi everyone,

I got up early to image Mars, but I should have stayed in bed because of poor seeing conditions. I decided to try and see what f-ratio a 2x Meade barlow and a 2.5x powermate attached to my diagonal would give me, since I figured I wouldn't get any decent images anyway. This combo brought my scope to about f/60. I was suprised that the image came out half decent with this focal length (about 12,180mm), combined with poor seeing. Hopefully I'll have better luck tommorrow.

Meade LX90 8" SCT @ f/60
Phillips ToUcam Pro 840
Seeing 3-4/10
Transparency 3/5
Frames= 504/1806 @ 10fps
Taken at 8:46 UT on August 18, 2005

Hi Robert,

Incredible image for such poor conditions! I'd love to see some images from you when the seeing is good.

Hi Damian,

Your images never cease to amaze! 8O The detail you have obtained with Mars still relatively small is incredible. I'm sure this autumn we'll be seeing from you, the best amatuer Mars images ever taken!! I'm very much looking forward to more.

Ed Roach

Hi everyone,

This is the first time I have ever imaged the straight wall. My lunar images have really improved since Paolo suggested the IR pass filter I'm using now, thanks Paolo!

Meade LX90 8" SCT@ f/25, ToUcam 840, IR pass filter, frames= 191/1206 @ 10fps, seeing 6/10.
