My take on this issue-
I think partial-birth abortion, which Obama is in favor of, has touched a hot button with many people. Even people who support abortion often draw the line at partial-birth or late term abortions. Whereas the extremeist pro-abortion crowd is not willing to make any concessions, that is, abortion should be allowed under any circumstances, the conservative pro-life crowd frequently believes that abortions could be performed under certain circumstances. President Regan's stand on abortion was like that. I believe it is this "all or nothing" stand like the one Obama takes that turns off many pro-abortion people who believe that there should still be some restrictions with abortions. If the left is not willing to concede that abortions should be avoided under certain circumstances, I think some pro-abortion'ers may be rethinking their positions on this issue.
