Name that bird...

I've got one too that I can't identify exactly. Is this an immature white-crowned sparrow, field sparrow, or tree sparrow? None of the above?

Insect in the carport

Any bug-ologists out there that knows what this is, please let me know. I think it's a female and it's about 2 inches long at the body.

Sunspot 0953

Posted By david elosser

In spite of the winds and clouds, I had a really nice viewing of old sol and the new spot 0953. This one is very large, I estimate at least 4 earth diameters using the drift method. The umbra looks like a beagle, with its nose point northward, and a short tail to the south. "Snoopy" has a lump on his back, which looks like it is trying to separate. The very large penumbra is oval in shape. It is mostly intact with a well defined perimeter, but it is fracturing at the southeast corner. I could see a few tiny spots peppering the area around the penumbra. Grain is excellent, but the unsteady air prevented me from seeing much detail. Equipment: SV102ABV doublet apo, BV1 binoviewers with various powers 68-105x, Baader white light filter and Solar Continuum filter.

I had never seen one of these untill I put up my feeder near the house. It was late in the day and I had to shoot these at ISO 800.

Road hazzard?

Posted By david elosser

Boy, I wouldn't want to run over this with my car tires! But don't worry, it MUCH smaller than that. It's a stamen shaft off of my azelea bush. Taken through my Steindorf microscope and digiscoped with my Fuji S5200.
