Mach1gto - first light

Posted By Mark Holden

A good friend got one of the very first Mach1 mounts, and as luck would have it, he doesn't have the scope he'll be using on it yet, so I am getting to break it in for him.

Last night was first light for it. We put my TMB 115 CNC on it, and since it was a nearly full Moon, I put the ST2k on as soon as I was star synced.

It is a little noisier than the 900 and 1200 mounts. The software for the keypad hasn't been updated to show the Mach1 as an option yet, but it worked fine with the keypad thinking it was an AP1200.

Imaging could become boring with this mount. You set everything up, tell it what to do, and it just does it. Flawlessly.

It's an incredibly nice mount.

Taking apart the lens to clean between the elements is a pretty serious undertaking, and I doubt anyone would do it unless there was a significant problem.

Water on Mars

Posted By Mark Holden

Photos taken in October appear to show Mars has had water flowing on it's surface since we first started imaging the planet.

Anyone else having to log in for every page?

Posted By Mark Holden

My ISP at home was sold, and changed my IP address and now I'm having to log onto Astromart for every single page I view, even if I tell AM to keep me logged in.

Is this an AM problem, or is my ISP doing something funky?

To clarify, I'm not leaving the AM system - if I click on a forum name, I'll need to sign in. If I then click on one of the listed messages, I'll need to sign in again.

Your account settings for email under "account menu" are probably set to monitor this forum.

This link should take you to the place where you can change your settings:

No more small TMBs

Posted By Mark Holden

The "German" TMB's have been available through Markus or Thomas.

My understanding is Thomas will be concentrating on the larger ones as he's still a one man shop, and it'll allow him to devote his time to more profitable work.

The smaller ones will still be available through Markus.

Mirror recoating that won't bankrupt me

Posted By Mark Holden

It's across the country, but my astronomical society (bmas.org) had it's 16" mirror recoated by Majestic last summer. They did a beautiful job and the cost was quite reasonable. I think it was $200 for the primary with the secondary.

Sky 90 or TMB 80

I am looking for a small portable apo refractor. I am wondering whether I should get the sky 90 with its 10mm advantage in aperture or TMB 80 with its perfect color correction. How do they compare under the stars?

I've heard APM will be coming out with a 95mm with a TMB apo objective. You might check with Markus to see when it's due out and what it's likely to cost.
