Obama: Dakota Floods Caused by GW

Posted By Chris Nisbet

I live in Minnesota so I can tell you that Red River flooding in the spring is a normal occurance. This event has been going on for eons ever since the last glacier retreated. That's why there is a dike system for some towns along the river (obviously this year a combination of factors worked against the residents this spring). The reason it floods every year is pretty simple-the river flows north into Canada. When spring melts the snow pack, it melts the snow in the south first which drains into the river. The river outlets in the north are still frozen solid-the water has no choice but to back up along the river valley. Flooding is also the reason the area has such rich farmland.
I would like a reporter to ask BO if he knows which way the Red River flows.
Global warming didn't cause this-geology and weather (which we can't control although some people think we can) caused the perfectly natural event.
That being said, I commend all the residents and volunteers who are helping and have helped to save the city. Not once did they ask "Where is the Federal government?". They knew what had to be done and they did it themselves. People came from all over, prisoners were let out to help because they WANTED to. That is the true spirit of America-The "Can Do" attitude.

Supernova 2009ga NGC 7678 Arp 28

Posted By Chris Nisbet

I did attempt a color image of Arp 28. I have not done much color imaging so I am a novice at it. Anyway, here is the attempt.

Specs are: C11@f/12,MI-250,Pyxis,AO8,CFW-10, Astrodon filters,ST-8XME. L layer was the previous post. RGB are 3x3, 8x5min. I used CCDSoft to color combine with color ratios 1:1:1.35. Too much green when blue was at 1. I'm sure it could use some help.

Nuclear in Minnesota

Posted By Chris Nisbet

I too live in Minnesota and I think the moratorium should be lifted. I get sick and tired of hearing about all this "green energy" in this state and how we have to move toward it. The fact is in MN, the wind doesn't blow all the time and the sun can disappear for weeks in the winter. And it's cold here in the winter! IF (and that's a big IF) we do need to move away from fossil fuel here in MN, nuclear is the obvious choice. But right now, fossil fuels are the cheapest way to provide energy in this state. And with all the new and proposed taxes at all levels of government, I need CHEAP!

Me too at least not as fast as it used to. However, if I wait long enough, they appear.
