Re: Any decent mounts for around 1000 dollars

Hi Gary,

The 6in Mak is a high powered scope requiring a nice solid mount to prevent the "dancing stars".
If you must have goto option, Meade's new LX80 and Celestron's tried and true CG5-Goto will fit your budget and weight constraint.
Much less massive than the CI700.

Personally, I like starhopping and the ability of manually fine adjusting my RA-DEC motions. I am using the Orion SVP. Similar to CG5 class. With a handy star chart, it forces me to know the layout of the sky.

If your budget allows, the Orion Sirius, baby version of Atlas, is a more refined GEM.

The Voyager and Porta alt-az mounts are decent grab-n-go.
But will quickly get frustrating nudging both axes to manually track high powered views.

Best would be to test drive a few mounts if you are close to a store or check out star party.

So, is the death of Colin Powell political?

Strange folks still find excuses to drag out cheetos.
You really really miss him don't you.

Does Gen. Powell regret covering up for presidents throughout his career?
