Homebuilt EQ mounts

Posted By Tony Aguire

Hello, all
I was wondering if anyone out there has had any luck with building thier own EQ mount? I am very mechanically inclined (I used to build race car engines) and know of a couple local machine shops that do one of a kind parts. I have a C8 on a fork mount with spur gear drive. I would like to do photography with it and have discovered that exposures are limited do to the mechanics of the drive. I guess my question is, is it worth the effort to build my own or would I save myself alot of hassle by buying one. Portability is not an issue as I would permanently mount it on a pier.I am more interested in acurate mechanics.
Thanks for the input

Re: PC Christmas

Have you heard about the Christmas trees being taken down at the Sea-Tac airport? Here is a link to the latest:

The airport authority did exactly the sensible thing when threatened with a lawsuit - they removed all Christmas trees. With this PC world run by lawyers, what would any sane person do?

Interestingly it looks like the Rabbi and his lawyer do not want to be seen as the bad guy so they have pulled their threat, and the airport authority is considering putting them back up. How long do you think it will take Quanza celebrators, winter solstice believers, devil worshipers and who knows what other group to get lawyers to stop them. In the end the only one who will be happy will be the anti-religion minority in the community.

A local commentator pointed out that Christmas is a national holiday, not any of the other ones these groups will use as a weapon.

It is stuff like this that demonstrates the agenda of the left. I can see them changing the party platform - Santa is public enemy number one; protect the rights of terrorists; Christmas trees should be outlawed; the national language should be Spanish; Jesus was a Jew, so He must have infringed on the rights of Palestinians; and the minimum wage should be raised for minorities to $50 per hour.

Now that Dems are in control, will they change the public holidays to make them more PC?

We outlawed Christams trees in my house to. We have two pet wolves that eat them. And my boxer pees on trees. My Shiba Inu (Dog) is scared of them because when he was a puppy he tried to chew on the extension cord for the lights. And I am sure my shephard/chow mix would be offended to, somehow.

And if I were a pine tree, I would be deeply offended that someone wanted to slaughter me to celebrate some dudes birthday who died almost 2000 years ago. They don't even have pine trees in that region of the middle east. Why couldnt we use something more regionally correct, like an olive tree or a fig tree? grin

Celestron 99$ eypiece kit

Posted By Tony Aguire

I have a question. When I bought my first scope ( an new C114) Celestron was offering this kit for 99$ that included 5 filters, and the following eypieces 5mm, 9mm, 15mm, 25mm, and 32mm. I thought it was a great deal at the time. I have since traded in the c114 and purchased a used C8 with some bells and whistles. (Advanced Astromaster etc) but I am still using the 99$ eypieces. My question is what these eypieces are and whether they might be holding me back on visual quality. I don't know if anyone is familiar with this kit so...
I live 50 miles from Phoenix, pretty dark skies (you can see the Milky Way very well) and have columated the scope but I don't see the type of detail that others describe with similar scopes. Any info would be appreciated.

Now might be a good time to consider buying some land in the Yukon Territory, might be year round ocean front property.

Powell & Obama 08!!!!
Actually, If there was a woman I would like to see in the oval office itr would be... Janet Napolitano Gov of AZ.
She is a Democrat that kicked the %$^# out of her republican challenger by over 20 percentage points in a, John Mccains state and a pretty conservative one at that. But She is very unlikely to run for prez this time around, maybe next.

Dirty Energy Dirty Earth Dead Earth

I am sorry, but having seen some of the posts regarding California's attempt to limit pollution and greenhouse gasses, I have to ask. Has any one watched An Inconvenient Truth (Al Gore's movie)? If so, did the movie have an impact on how you interpreted the effects of greenhouse gasses, and global warming? Or are we all a bunch of skeptics shocked
