jupiter image 10th April 2003

Posted By Tan Wei Leong

Dear fellow jupiter observers,

Attached are two jupiter images from 10th April 2003. Had all business trip
cancelled due to the SARS as my customers are too scared to see me smile (I'm
still healthy and never get infected) so I have some time to image jupiter.

The jetstream spot is very close to jupiter now and it will be very interesting to keep imaging it as long as the sky co-operates.
Some thin clouds rolled in for the 1344ut image causing the lost in contrast and I've tried to process it with lesser sharpening which gives a slightly smoother look.

alpine valley 10th April 2003

Dear all,

Here's an image of the alpine valley taken on 10th April. Just a "test shot" side track from jupiter while waiting for GRS to rotate nearer to CM.

The cleft is visible in this image smile

Jupiter image 13th April 2003

Posted By Tan Wei Leong

Here's the jupiter image from 13th April 2003.

Seeing was pretty bad as the it has rained this afternoon but it suddenly cleared up just after sunset.

The jetstream spot seems to have broken into two parts and one part has already come into contact with the GRS.

Dear Jupiter observers,

Attached is the jupiter image from 17th April 2003

It seems like the jetstream spot is less obvious today.

mars 18th June 2003

Posted By Tan Wei Leong

Dear everyone,

Finally the skies has clear up and I managed to obtain some mars images.
I was able to test out the 5x powermate with the 250mm Mewlon and I am quite satisfied with the results.

Seeing was 6-7/10 and transparency 9/10.

URL to the image at http://www.sg-planets.org/mars/mars200306182127ut.jpg

I will send more images as I get time to process them.

Let's hope for more clear skies and superb seeing.

big version of mars 18th June 2003

Posted By Tan Wei Leong

Dear everyone,

Here's the big version of the mars I posted last night.

http://www.sg-planets.org/mars/mars200306182127ut-big.jpg

Damian Peach is kind enough to process it for me as I was too tired last evening.

You can see the Tiny SPC Rift (near the CM) and "U" shape am haze.

I am very satisfied with this new version. This is my best image so far.

mars 21st June 2003

Posted By Tan Wei Leong

Dear friends,

The sky has been clear again and I managed to obtain some mars images
Attached is the mars image from this morning.
Transparency was poorer this morning 6/10 and seeing was 5/10. I had to reduce the F ratio to f/60.8 (2.5x powermate + 2x barlow)
Stacking of 1000 frames out of 1800 frames at 1/25 sec gain at 60%
There are a few other avi that I will get to process later and they will be send out in due time.

Clear Skies to everyone.

mars image 21st June 2003 - 21:57UT

Posted By Tan Wei Leong

Dear friends,

This is an additional mars image from 21st June 2003.
URL to the image at:

http://www.sg-planets.org/mars/mars200306212157ut.jpg

This image is done with the true tech magneta filter and IR blocker. For more information you may refer to this article from the following URL.

http://www.sg-planets.org/toucam_mars.html

The main difference between the UV-IR filtered image and with the UV-IR+magneta filter is the lack of green ghost (surface details) in the B frame as well as no saturation of following limb in the Red frame. The raws are much easier to process. This method with the magneta filter works as expected according to the article.

You may compare this image with the UV-IR filtered one at the following URL.
