mars image 25th August 2003

Dear mars observers,

The skies cleared up at the last minute and I had to use the 10" mewlon.

Here's the mars image from 25th August 2003.

Mars has already reach the size of 25.1", just 0.1" to go before the max
size.

Seeing was unsteady for this image and I could only pick 460 frames out of
1800 manually.

mars image 31st August 2003

Dear friends,

Here's the mars image from 31st August 2003. Good seeing and
transparency allows me to apply very little processing to the image.

mars image 4th Sept 2003

Dear friends,

Here's the mars image from 4th Sept 2003. Seeing and transparency is a little poorer compared to the 3rd and I had to apply harder processing. Fast moving low clouds makes imaging difficult.

You may directly compare this image with the one from 3rd Sept and see the difference in the cloud details.

jupiter 10th April 2004

Posted By Tan Wei Leong

Dear Jupiter observers,

Here's a jupiter image from 10th April 2004.

Seeing was not as good as what I wanted it to be and transparency is bad as usual for this time of the year here. We're in the dry season now so the air is pollution is bad at times.

I am glad to be able to resume imaging after a break of more than 6 months.
Busy work schedule as well as renovation on the roof of my apartment block as prevented imaging. In fact I just return from a week of stay in the southern suburb of Paris.

This image is done with the Toucam in RAW color mode. The resulting image is excellent with much lower noise compared to the normal mode. Special thanks to Etienne Bonduelle his group who developed the RAW mode.

As usual please let me know if you have any concern or comments on the images.

comparison of toucam raw/normal mode

Posted By Tan Wei Leong

Dear Folks,

I've done a simple comparison of the normal Toucam and RAW color mode.
A side by side comparision is also done with auto seletion of frames vs manual selection of frames in registax.

There is a big difference in the noise when you compared the normal mode toucam and toucam in RAW mode. This is especially true when you compare the low contrast features. The noise presence in the normal mode image kills some of the low contrast features.

There is just a little difference between the auto selection vs manual frame in registax. I guess every bit counts when you're trying to push for the best image.

All comments are welcomed.
