I want a Porsche 911 for my next car!

Posted By Scott Satko

Hey all, this is my first time posting on the "Bad to the Bone Autos" forum, so bear with me if this isn't the type of discussion you all usually have here. If the purpose of this forum is mainly for guys to show off pics of cars that they already own, feel free to tell me to go away and sign up for hotrods.com or the like! 8)

I've really liked the Porsche 911 ever since seeing one in a early 1980s movie as a teenager (I know, this sounds pretty corny). Well, fast forward 30+ years, and now I'm a middle-aged guy (possibly having a mid-life crisis), who for the first time in his life finds himself in a financial situation where maybe he can get one (well, okay, that's if the CFO (i.e., wife) allows it!). It would help if I had a dealer nearby and could test-drive one, but unfortunately in my next of the woods, there aren't exactly Porsche dealers on every street corner. Have any of you ever owned (or at least driven) one of these? Are there any model years that I should stay away from? Any other advice? BTW, I'd be looking for a used one, as I can't palate the idea of dropping enough dough to buy a small house on a car!

Thanks in advance!

Mid-Atlantic Star Party cancelled! :-(

Posted By Scott Satko

I just found out yesterday that the Mid-Atlantic Star Party (MASP), which was supposed to be held next week in Robbins, NC, has been cancelled. I'm not sure if it was just cancelled for this year, or permanently cancelled, but the organizer's explanation posted on the MASP website doesn't seem to bode well for the future. I'm pretty disappointed, as this star party has always been the highlight of my observing year for the past decade. sad

January 2, 2013 04:18 AM Forum: Ask rating questions here

Re: Am I in the wrong, feedback please!

Posted By Scott Satko

Jim, I'd really advise against giving someone a bad rating just for not replying to your offer to buy. Other AM'ers have failed to respond to my offers to buy many times, and in those cases I think it's always best to give the other guy the benefit of the doubt. Lots of people have emailed me and only days later I found that their email had gotten caught by my spam filter. I'd hate to get a bad rating for something like that that was totally out of my control.

Lastly, even if the other guy did get your email and was just blowing you off, it's important to remember Herb's policy on giving ratings when no transaction has taken place: he's stated numerous times that such an action can and likely will result in the offender having their AM account banned if they are caught doing such a thing. I'd strongly recommend making amends with the guy and then each of you deleting your ratings before Herb catches on (especially now that you've started this thread to call attention to yourself).

Takahashi scopes at MASP

Posted By Scott Satko

Thanks for sharing these pics, John. The owner of the Taks was nice enough to let me spend some time looking through his scopes--Jupiter was a real stunner through the FS152!

Migrains anyone?

Posted By Scott Satko

Hi Tony,
Astromart has a "General Health Issues" forum, in case you want to consider posting updates there. Your symptoms sure sound like migraines, but it wouldn't be wise for anyone to try to make a diagnosis over the internet. If you haven't been evaluated by a neurologist (nerve and brain specialist), that would be my recommendation, as there are other conditions (some benign, and some potentially more serious) that can mimic migraines. Hope you're able to find a good physician who can help get you some relief!

Favicon for Astromart

Posted By Scott Satko

Hi Keith,
I like the icon you created. Now if I were the least bit computer savvy and actually understood a word of what you said (place in the Astromart root? huh?), then I'd probably try to use the icon on my computer. wink

Thanks, David! I probably won't need the sandbags, as I don't envision myself going 90+ mph unless I can find a track somewhere. wink
