Re: Why I think 'The Passion' is evil...

Posted By John Hopkins

>>I think it's evil because it never happened<<

Wait a minute, are we talking the question of whether Jesus was divine or whether he had a hellish execution? Since there's nothing supernatural about the latter I don't see why it requires debunking.

>>it lacks historical correlation<<

But politics, religious fanaticism/persecution, plain stupidity, cowardice (Pilate), and crucifixion *as such* were all features of that era. It could easily have happened just like that, hence I don't find it worth denying.

>>I consider it one of the most anti-semitic pieces of trash ever written.<<

You're going to have to explain that one a little better. There were Jews calling for the crucifixion and Jews horrified by it, not to mention the sadistic Roman torturers were offset by other Roman occupiers who didn't understand why this powerless man deserved such treatment.

>>The 3rd Reich would've loved this film<<

My GF loved this film, and somehow didn't make this leap to "Every Jew is responsible for Christ's death." Maybe you should check your own assumptions, or watch it again.

Info on Tak t-mount adapters

Posted By John Hopkins

I've got a Ricoh SLR, but the Tak t-mounts are all designated for other mfrs (Nikon, Pentax, etc.). Anyone have an idea which would work with a Ricoh?

Does this make any sense?

Apparently it's not enough to fight against evolution in school textbooks, now it's spread to 'offensive' novels including To Kill A Mockingbird and The Martian Chronicles. What on earth is the problem with *those*?

FS102 on a new CG5

Posted By John Hopkins

Finally got a decent mount after a month of owning the scope. The CG5 is one of the new ones with goto. Was going to get myself in the pic but it started to rain so will have to get to that later. The diagonal is a WO.

Targets

Just picked up this DVD for 8 bucks. It's Peter Bogdanovich's first film as director and surprisingly good -- not sure why it's been so obscure. What's really cool is to see Boris Karloff being so good in one of his last movies. Highly recommended.

Informal poll: is she right?

Christian woman decides to fight town ordinance that would allow muslim church to broadcast call to prayer over loudspeaker:

I admit I can't make up my mind on this one. I've been listening to church bells my whole life without a second thought, other than to use it occasionally to check my watch.
