Newtonian

Posted By William Green

I would like, I think, to put a good-to-high quality Newtonian reflector onto my G-11 mount. Who makes suitable Newtonian OTA's these days? How about suitable rings?

Thanks!

A-P dew shields

Posted By William Green

Pardon me for asking a couple of dumb questions:

First, on the newer A-P refractors, does the dew shield come completely off the optical tube, or does it merely slide back and forth on the optical tube?

Second, when fully extended, does the dew shield droop to any noticeable extent?

I'm just curious.....

Panoptics

Posted By William Green

I have heard that the TeleVue 35mm Panoptic eyepiece has pincushion distortion. Is it noticeable when observing? If so, why would anyone want to observe with it? Do all Panoptic eyepieces have this pincushion distortion?

Does anyone know what kind of glass TEC uses in its refractors and Maks? Is it Russian glass? Japanese? Other?

Thanks!

Which Japanese-brand refractor is considered the best by Japanese amateur astronomers? Takahashi? Pentax? Other?
