Vixen ED103S and ED115S

Posted By William Green

Hi, Mike,

The Sky & Telescope review concerned an altogether different Vixen telescope, the ED114S, as I recall. The ED103S and ED115S were introduced this year and are both f/7.7. They are available in the USA, but one never hears anything about them. I suspect the Chinese ED telescopes have ruined the market for Vixen apo's.

What are you doing to save on GAS?

I have not seen a Yaris in my neighborhood (Austin, TX). In fact, I thought the Yaris not yet been introduced. Is it smaller than the Corolla, which itself is not very big?

I'm currently driving a 1995 Civic, which is still going strong!

Mach1 mount and Pier under test

Posted By William Green

Would the Mach1 mount be overkill for someone like me who is a purely-visual observer? Would I do as well sticking with the less-expensive G-11? Maybe the Mach1's servo motors (?), as opposed to the G-11's stepper motors, would allow me better high-power views of the planets?

Thank you.

What happened to the Japan page for Takahashi? I used to visit there but now I can't find it.

Vixen GPD-2 vs. Vixen GPD

Posted By William Green

Are you certain that the new GPD2 is Chinese-made? If so, that is a major disappointment. I have had nothing but bad luck with Chinese products.

I'd be very interested in user comments comparing construction quality and tracking accuracy between the newer, Chinese made (Japanese assembled) Vixen GPD-2, and the same size, slightly older, but completely Japanese made, Vixen GPD.

Company that can clean eyep's?

Posted By William Green

I would contact Company Seven and ask.

I just picked up a older RV8 8" f/8 Newt and i it came with a Celestron Polaris finder. The optics are pretty mucked up!

Is there a company that clean the optics and eyepiece on the 8x50 finder?

Celestron C8-SGT vs Meade LDX75 8" SCT?

Posted By William Green

If I were going to buy an SCT, I'd buy it from Company Seven, because they really do check out each scope before they sell it. I've purchased two or three SCT's from them, and each was very good optically and had no noticeable image shift.
