Meade

I see Meade just put two 16 inch reflectors on their Meade factory outlet web site. They are $2499, is that a good price?

Grab and go

Posted By john mclaughlin

Question:

I have a pretty nice Canon photo tripod with a 1/4 inch screw on top. I want to make it into a grab and go mount for a C5 and a 80mm Stellarvue.

Can anyone recommend a good tripod head for it, for under a $100? There's too many to choose from, and I'm not sure if I want a ball joint or the pan and tilt.

I will eventually make a tall pipe pier out of a fence post or something to fit this on.

Thanks,

John

Wood Tripod

Posted By john mclaughlin

Hello, I have a quick question.

I have a wood tripod with the hinges and plastic tray in the middle of the legs. I need to fold the legs to get it in my back seat. To do this, I have to take the tray completely off. Not a big deal but those screws are so small.

My question is:

Is there anyway to make this tripod fold like a camera tripod? Can I make something by just going to the hardware store and buying the parts? Like a quick disconnect hub?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

John

P.S. No backseat jokes please. I can see a million of them.

Secondary mirror alignment

Posted By john mclaughlin

Hi,

I just bought a 10 inch reflector and the mirror and secondary mirror were way out of alignment. I collimated it the best I could with the collimation cap.

My question is:

How do I know if the secondary mirror is exactly right. Is it at the proper angle, is it too far up or down, or is it slightly turned? I just don't know.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

John

Perfect Mirror

Hi,

Did I miss something? Whatever happened to the guy that had the perfect mirror. He was suppose to have it tested and then get back with everyone.

Best wishes from John McLaughlin

Vibration Suppression Pads

Posted By john mclaughlin

Hi,

This may sound silly, but I saw an ad the other day and it got me thinking.

How would hockey pucks work as Vibration Suppression Pads?

Would they be too hard? I have never actually seen a real pad.

Thanks in advance,

John

Burgess/TMB Planetary Series

Posted By john mclaughlin

Hi eyepiece experts!

I'm interested in trying the BO Planetary eyepieces, but I am not sure which one I should buy to try. What eyepiece would I need to fill a gap?

Here's what I have in eyepieces under 10mm.

Naglers 4.8 and 7 mm
UO orthos 4 and 9 mm
Televue Plossl 8 mm

Which one would you try?

Thanks,

John

Re: Loss of Contrast?!!

Not only was it funny, it reminded me that I was out of COLD BEER!

Just got back from the local carry-out. Should help with contrast, I think.

Thanks for the reminder,

John
