C-11 OTA on GP mount+ SS2K

Posted By Julius Szakacs

I mounted my C-11(22LB) on my GP mount, rated 15lb, and suprised, works very smooth, after carefull ballancing. I had to use over 25lb counter ballance. (regular exercising weights)
I'm not sure if it's good enough for photo, but for visual, works very smooth, on this light EQ mount.
SS2K is very accurate, it helps a lot, since light polution is very bad in my back-yard(street light beaming down), also I'm in the midle of a city, next to a high-way. Forget star hoping here.

C-11 changed collimation, cause heat????

Posted By Julius Szakacs

Every thing was fine, I had nice images of Jupiter and Saturn, up till two
days ago. Left the C-11(black OTA. it's been hot, here in East-Bay) mounted
in my back yard, last night not done any observation, but tonight I tried,
but the collimation is way off. Stars fanning all one way, can't even make
out Saturn's shape, it's a blob. Mount was under an umbrella sort of in the
shade, but can the heat do that?

Thanks, Julius

House Finch, male, top of the Street lamp

Posted By Julius Szakacs

Finch, very small bird was about 20 yards away, on top of the street lamp. Tried my new 4" Mak MC MTO 11-CA lens and Canon EOS 300D for bird photography. Focusing is critical, had many pictures come out out of focus.
Round flange he standing on is the cover of the photo cell on top of the lamp, only a few inches in diamater.

Finch taken with TV Pronto, 2x barlow

Finch taken with TV Pronto, 2x barlow, Canon 300D
Switched from the Mak to refractor, TV Pronto. Got a few nice shots today of the Finch Male & Female. Trying to get both birds in one frame, but no luck so far. Very active birds, they don't stay put for long. Top of that lamp post is the favorit hang out for them. Lucky me! (-:
Male is scratching. Itch,Itch...
Nice balancing act on one foot. (-:

Seagulls and Pelicans

Posted By Julius Szakacs

Was down at the beach, took a few pictures of the local wiled life.
Used my D300 attached to a 4" Mak telescope, 100mmx1000 f/10.
Few came out good. Lot of depth of field at this focus lenght.
Some of the subjects were some 30-50 yards away, the pelicans were very far, I can only see them through the camera, flying into the sunset.

Red tailed Hawk ???

Posted By Julius Szakacs

Took a bunch of pictures of , I think a Red Tailed Hawk. She was hunting at Half Moon Bay, CA, landing on the day time parking lots sign. Only a few pictures came out good, moved too fast, it was hard to focus and get her in the frame same time, unless she was sitting on the sign.
Canon 300D/ Phoenix 80-300 zoom lens.

Black bear in Yosemity

Posted By Julius Szakacs

Camped for a week at Yosemite Nat.Park. All I heard is stories about the black bears coming into the camp ground, stilling food. We had to put any smelly items, foods, into a steal box every night.
But never seen any bears. Finely the last day, driving, I spotted one from the road, enjoying the fruits on one bush.
Took a few pictures, before the bear walked away. He was about 30 yards from me, up on the cliff and no cage to separate him from me.
Very thrilling.
