Lunar Eclipse 15 May @ 0336 UTC

Posted By Luis Eguren

Shot this with a Coolpix 4500 16 sec @100ASA using a 25mm eyepiece and a DS-10.

This is at full eclipse and the 2 stars visible in the picture are HIP 76106 (mag 5.5) and HIP 76103 (mag 8.6)

Old style Drive correctors

Posted By Luis Eguren

Any one know where (aside from AstroMArt - tried already) on can get a used/refurb/mod etc... drive corrector similar to the VE Digitrak II, Lumicon's, Vogels or Byers.

With all the GOTO and 'modern" mounts out there, it's hard to believe that these have disappeared from sight. Am looking for one either to buy used or to be "made" by a competent electrician-type guy.

Any suggestions/ Know anyone who may have one at the bottom of their "toys"trunk.

Thx

Mars July 1, 2003

Posted By Luis Eguren

Imaged using a Toucam Pro and a DS-10 (old version of Starfinder) usinga 2X Celestron Barlow. Used about 75 of the best frames from various AVI's taken in short succession.

Mars was about 27* above the horizon and 16.7" with a CM 287. Comparason frame is from "Cartes du Ciel" showing same aspect and CM.

Dual Axis Drive Corrector

Posted By Luis Eguren

Maybe someone could help here. I have a Dual Axis drive corrector that supplies 115VAC to both axis.

I am in search of a schematic for a Byers made Dual Axis Drive Corrector unit. Or at least some info as to how to properly wire the hand paddle to the main unit.

If some astro-soul out there has a Byers mount and a Byers Drive Corrector, I would really like to exchange e-mails on how the thing is wired. I have a couple of jpg's if someone wants to see what I'm talking about.

Appreciate any help the group can give me.

Astro-Physics 8002 Drive Corrector

Posted By Luis Eguren

This is a long shot but I gotta try. I recent acquired an Astro-Physics 8002 Dual axis drive corrector. Unfortunately, it does not have any hand paddle controls or wiring.

Does anyone out there have a schematic or could provide info on this unit. I need to drive my Byesr 58 whose drive corrector isn't working properly.

Much appreciate any help.

Clear skies,

Luis

Mars 19/08/03 - 7" Meade Mak

Posted By Luis Eguren

Well, finally had some decent weather with average seeing. Mars was only 27.5 degrees above the horizon (at best, it only gets to 30 deg above horizon here in Montreal)

Image was taken with a 7" Meade Mak, a 1.6X Antares barlow through a Baader UV-IR cutoff filter and a Baader Contrast Boost filter using a Toucam Pro.

Image is stack of about 50 frames from 1 20 sec AVI @ 3fps.

Rolando, am curious to know a little about your afoacl setup. Could you post or send me a jpg off forum?

Have a Toucam used at prime with barlows, but am curious to see what the image quality difference is between the "usual" method and afoacl projection.

P.S. If you think that ATlanta night are rarely above average, up here in NEast, the jet stream has been over head every clear night, and when it goes away, it is replaced by those pesky low pressure conditions more commonly known as "gray and rainy".

to NABG or to ABG

Posted By Luis Eguren

OK, I've given in to the temptation of acquiring a "REAL" astro CCD camera. But, is ABG or NABG better for someone doing non-scientific oriented imaging?

I know NABG is far more sensitive (i.e. short exposures) but star spiking is common. ABG eliminates the star spiking but requires longer exposures.

I will be doing most of my imaging from very light polluted backyard (<3.5 magn visible on most nights).

Any suggestions?

Are SBIG better entry/intermedeate level cameras? Or is Starlight Express a better entry/intermedeate level option?

Have experience with teh SAC7b and have gotten decent results, but my light skies and the 8-bit mode just do not permit me to "extract" as much detail from the background as I would like.

Nikon D50/70 vs Canon 20D

Posted By Luis Eguren

Am in the market for a new DSLR and need a little input from the community on whether the Nikon D50 or 70 is a better buy for astrophoto than the standard Canon 20D (not the 20Da).

Any info or a link to images taken by each camera would be appreciated.

Thx and clear skies (cause mine s%#k)
