Focal Reducers & Newtonian Reflectors

Posted By Luis Eguren

I know that focal reducers work well with SCT's and refractors but anyone know if the work well with reflectors?

I'm using a 10" f/4.5 reflector. If I use a 0.63X FReducer, I should be they imaging at f/2.8. I know the math works (and o the field) for SCT's and refractors, but is the smae true for newts?

Losmandy 492 Drive and DSI Pro

Posted By Luis Eguren

Was woindering if anyone has any experience using a DSI Pro to guide the Losmandy (Celestron) Model 492 electronics. Essentially, can I just plu g the DSi into the drive or do I need a relay?

Thx for the help,

Luis

Easier way to collimate my Meade SC

Posted By Luis Eguren

Interesting way to collimate... got a give it a try.

What if there are two halos, one blue on one side of the limb one red on the opposite side? Which side do you move to?

Even with one halo, assume on the right side (90 degree position) and assuming your above setup, do you tighten or loosen the screw on the same side of the halo or loosen it to get better collimation?

Again, very nice... I noticed that there is a "dark blotch" on the lower of the two bands (on the right side of the planet). haven't seen this before in images of this side of Jupiter (almost opposite GRS side). Did this appear lately. Any one know?

My First Mars this Apparition

Posted By Luis Eguren

Very nice indeed!! At my location, Mars will get to 26 degrees in alt... I WISH I was at your location. Did some imaging last weekend and all I saw was mush mixed with more mush.

Keep these beauties coming as it gets bigger and bigger!

MN56 and Astrophotography

Posted By Luis Eguren

I used the MN56 last night to image with a SAC7b... no problem attaining focus. Didn't notice any drop off in illumination. Haven't processed the images totally, but scanning them early this a.m. didn't show anything out of the ordinary.

I could try to fit my OM-1 on with a t-adapter to see if a "regular" camera attains focus and let you know.
